I know several people who work for TJ's in a couple of different stores, and have for many years.
Flexibility and willingness to chip in and do any job, and a friendly, helpful nature in the store are the most important qualities they look for.
The best part is the team spirit. The worst parts are crabby customers and the hours. Everyone must participate in early calls once in a while, where you work in the wee hours doing most of the stocking and pitching in to clean the store. Other times, you will take turns working late or on weekends and some holidays.

I knew someone who worked there. He was a graduate of a culinary school and had chosen TJ's because the upward mobility is really good if you're willing to work hard. Initial pay isn't great but bennies were really good for him, and in like 6 years he was head of a store, which pays in 6 figures. Hours are long, but he was happy.
