The bread, I need but a Mercedes car, I want.

It is clear from the above example that both are altogether different words carrying different meanings.

A need of a human being is essential to survive and God doesn't want you to die. Therefore HE produced and gave every thing which you might NEED to survive.

While God didn't give me Mercedes car which I WANT. However I can live very well without the car.

Therefore what I WANT is not essential for me & my survival but what I NEED is important for me.

Moreover since man's WANTS are neverending, God did not fulfil all my WANTs, while HE gave me everything I NEED for me and my survival.

WANTS tend to get us in trouble, for example when looking for mates we want them to be pretty, shapely, etc. (woman) for a man he has to be muscular, well endowed, great teeth, etc. Those are the wants and they are all physical, because we want what our eyes see on the outside, and we don't know the person on the inside. What we want with the natural eye is the reason why so many people are divorced, single parents are at an all time high, and domestic violence. We are so busy focusing on the wants, that we fail to see the persons flaws on the inside-- that they exhibited all of these signs prior to getting involved. NEEDS are what really matters, they are a necessity in life. They are the must haves for success. Dealing with relationships again, A woman or man may have it going on on the outside, but when time comes for marriage does the woman know how to maintain her household, how to be a mother and wife, how to treat her husband so that he will want to come home, those are necessities, does the man know how to be a husband, and father, is he a provider for his family, is he stable, does he know how to make the family feel secure, that is also a necessity in a relationship. These are traits that we should look for on the inside and not the biceps, triceps, nice breasts, nice bottoms, all the things on the outside. You very seldom regret a "need" but the wants always bring the terms shoulda, coulda, and woulda

Needs are those things that are sufficient for survival, food, clothing, shelter, a job to pay the bills, good health etc. Wants are going beyond this, it is usually based on what others have, or its now in fashion. People will have acomputer that works well and meets your needs, but you want a computer that is flat screen with all the attachments, or you have a car that meets you travelling needs but you want to have a Mercedez because its to do with status. Or you want NIKE shoes when you already have shoes that serves the purpose, but you want a NIKE because it is status, it meets your ego needs. The ego's wants are never ending, it keeps demanding more and more, it like a bottomless container.

Oh yes...I want many things...but I have all that I need.

Unfortunately sometimes what we want is not always good for us.

I have a roof over my head, food in my cabinets, warm clothes upon my back, a loving family and just enough money to be comfortable.

I am not rich, but I wish I were, my home is not big or fancy, I do not eat steaks every night, my clothes come from walmart not Saks Fifth Avenue. And money wise, I would love to have alot more. And I am not married to Antonio Banderis. LOL

My needs, things that make my life comfortable are met.

Blessings,
Aviana

Things you need are perhaps things that are basic to your existence, like food, water, shelter.

Things you want are things you can pursue once your basic needs are fulfilled, like money, a new car, power.

So I guess you could argue that if God brings you living unto the earth, and gives you the essentials you NEED for life, then that enables you to pursue your WANTS.

However, I find this difficult to support since there are people born with brain damage, born with missing arms or legs, or other physiological problems which seriously hinter their ability to acquire even the most basic needs. If thrown into the middle of a forest, such a person might die compared to an able-bodied person, a kind of natural selection.

Since i am of the school of thought that ALLAH does what is best for you, the above mentioned line was easy for me to understand. In the above line it is being said that ALLAH did'nt give swamy vivekananda what he wanted but everything he needed. This simply underlines what i have written in the first line. when we ask something from ALLAH we take it for granted that he "should" give it to us coz HE is GOD and when his people ask from HIM, he should give. But it does'nt work that way, you may ask for anything you want , but HE will only give you what HE knows is best for you. that is why we see, there are times when our prayers seem answered and there are times when it looks like ALLAH rejected our plea. in the above sentence also, swami vivekananada is trying to say that ALLAH never seemed to give what he asked for but whatever ALLAH gave him, always met his needs aptly. in short WANT is what we think is good for us but NEED is what ALLAH knows will satisfy you. When does'nt give you something, it is so because HE knows that it is not good for you. hope you are clear with the meaning

Need is what you cannot live without and want is what you live without but still require a better standard of living...
The basic needs for man are mentioned in marslow's hierarchy...but the other needs vary according to each person...
Food.... It's a need to keep you alive if its just enough
It becomes want when you have more than enough
but still require it. you may want a biriyani but a porridge is all you need to satisfy your hunger...

God knows the depths our souls far better than we know ourselves. Thus, He knows what we need in our lives and what will bring us closer to Him. Sometimes what we think we need, is really just what we want, and sometimes what we want is not really good for us, no matter how smart or intuitive we think we are. God allows us to go through obstacles and struggles, yet remains with us all the way through them. He wants us, one, to come closer to Him through the suffering, and two, to learn certain things to lead us to the life we are supposed to lead. Thus, although He does not give us what WE want, He does indeed give us what we NEED.

God Bless :)
