I am taken my kitten to the vet to get his first shots on Saturday, how will his behavior be afterwards? Will he not want to be bothered or not want to play once we get home? Will he not feel like eating?

He'll prob be just fine :) The doc will check him out and give him his first round of kitten shots. The rabies one may make him a little drowsy... but my kitten slept for about 10 minutes when we got home and then was just as crazy :)
Best of luck with your little one!

Some kittens/cats are completely fine after a vet visit, and some tend to become a little angry with their owners. If it is a young kitten, he will probably be tired when he gets home because shots and vaccines can take a lot out of kittens, especially if they have blood drawn for FIV and FELV. When you get home, just let him try and do his own thing...if he feels like playing, then play with him, but just provide enough fresh food, water and a cozy place to sleep like your lap or a blanket and kitty won't be too upset for too long.

I have had many kittens and cats and some end up being mad at me for DAYS, while the other one had a hissy fit on the car ride home, but then they were lovey once they got home. I guess it can be stressful on a cat/kitten when they're stuck in a crate in a car and they don't know were they're going.

Hope you enjoy your kitten! :)

He may not want to be in the carrier. A young kitten may think he is going back to his cage, if he came from a shelter. Some cats cry terribly on the way to the vet, and others not.

If this is he first visit, have a stool sample to be checked for worms, as kittens usually have them. Have the vet check for ear mites also.

The first shots are usually a booster shot, as he will have some immunity from his mother.

Usually, it is the rabies shot that puts them a tiny bit under the weather, but kittens bounce back quickly. He should be racing around in no time.

If he seems overly quiet the day after, be sure to notify your vet as this is unusual.

Please make sure to have your vet play with the kitten after the shots are administered. The vet's office smells so strange and is a really scary place for any animal. It's important that your cat not develop vet phobia. Kitty should be fine after getting shots.

P.S. Brandit - Good luck in prison. Says a lot about a full-grown human when they harbor an unreasonable hatred of a small, furry animal that can't possibly hurt them.

The kitten should be fine after the shots. He might be a little tired but otherwise normal, however, be sure to check on him regularly to make sure he isn't having an allergic reaction to the vaccinations. This is a rare occurance but it does happen. It happened to my cat. She was very sensitive to light and touch and she was very warm. Her temp was above 105. She was very ill. But I got her to the emergency clinic and they gave her some meds and she was much better within 48 hours. She can't have vaccinations anymore because we don't know which one caused the reaction. Like I said, this is very rare. You have nothing to worry about but should keep an eye on your kitty for any changes other than mild lethargy or sleepiness.

It's normal if your kitty is tired afterwards and he may only want to sleep for a while. One of my kitties would sleep for the whole day after getting a shot, but my other still acted normal so it also just depends on your kitty. If he does seem lazy though, don't worry about it.

What you need to look for is if he gets diarrhea or throws up. Those are more of the uncommon reactions to vaccinations and a vet may need to be seen if it happens.

Good luck with your kitty!

When I took my kitten to the vet the first time she just kept cleaning where they put the shots but she was back to normal immediatley. Vaccines affect cats differently so you'll just have to see.

by potential of regulation, you may get the cat vaccinated for Rabies and shop on as much as now. you do not want Leukemia in the journey that your cat is precisely indoors (in case you think of there could be of project of it ever going out, or escaping...get the vaccine). Leukemia is unfold by potential of touch w/ different cats (scuffling with, etc), so which you do not want it for indoor in basic terms cats (they could ask you once you bypass in if the cat is indoor or outdoors). regarding the Rabies Vaccine: there are 2 recommendations - the "commonly used" style it relatively is given as quickly as, and then boostered in one year. After that it turns right into a three-year vaccine. different selection: "Purevax" Rabies vaccine which does not have the adjuvant in it like the common rabies vaccine. This adjuvant has been proper to reason maximum cancers (fibrosarcoma) in uncommon circumstances (extra or less a million/10,000 to 10/10,000 - no person is conscious the perfect prevalence). This vaccine could take delivery of in line with annum and is approx two times the value of the common rabies. in the journey that your vet does not grant this - bypass someplace else. wish this enables!

you never know, every animal acts differently after going to the vet... some don't care at all... and some get really scared of it..
Jus to give u some advice... if yur cat does become scared of the vet, they tend to learn that every time they get in the car it means they're going to the vet... So every once in a while u should take her in the car with u to go somewhere else besides the vet.. then she won't get scared of the car... =]
