The why is it the "Religious Right" that keeps trying to block it in America?

You're thinking of the biblical Jesus. The Jesus of the neoconservatives somehow thinks that charity is a sin. I'm not making this up, there are people using the Bible to justify their greed (although that shouldn't surprise anyone).

*Edit* -- Just look at "Oregon Flower." First of all, adopting universal healthcare won't turn the US into communist or socialist country. Second, the biblical Jesus said a lot of socialist sounding stuff -- claiming to know what Jesus would think of contemporary US politics is absurd.

I am sure he would be if he is/was the man described in the Bible. But, as many people are starting to realize, the conservative Christians of the religious right are not concerned with what Jesus would do.They are more concerned with whether or not there will be enough money to pay for the Iraq war- speaking of Bush who vetoed the bill.It all boils down to priorities.Health care apparently isn't a priority.War is.

Where does a 5 year old get the money to pay for health care if the parents don't have the money?

I do not know what Jesus would have been for. This is not a religious or spiritual issue but a political belief.

I believe Jesus wants us to be responsible and take care of ourselves. But I don't think that precludes all governmental assistance.

God is neither a democrat or a republican.

P.S. Its not just the religious right that are tying to stop this. Its those who actually want to have a good health care system in America and want people to be responsible for their health. I do not trust the government to make medical decisions.

No. Jesus wants His followers to pay their own way and not be a burden to others.

If everyone paid their own way and had a vested interest in how much an aspirin cost, doctors and hospitals could not charge so much for them. The high cost of medical care is a direct result of insurance. No one cares how much it costs because they do not think they are paying for it and the average person never sees what the doctors and hospitals are charging. If everyone paid their own way the costs would have to come down because doctors and hospitals want to stay in business. They would have to charge what is reasonable for people to pay. Insurance is not the solution, it just puts fuel on the already burning fire. I guarantee you that if UHC ever happens there will come a day when that same 5 year old's parents will not be able to afford it either.

Less bureaucracy, not more is the answer.

there's a distinction between have it pressured and kindness. as properly the wellbeing care invoice has no longer something to do with wellbeing care it particularly is a few government take over of a huge component of the financial equipment, Believing that the government is charitable is purely being naive, governments purpose is to regulate the inhabitants. whilst Jesus encouraged merchandising products and assisting the poo it became no longer a command. It became no longer a sort of government. yet a capability of compassion and outreach for ones fellow guy.

Let Cesar take what is his.

Problem is when Cesar takes money and says they'll use it to maintain the roads & bridges & then spends the money as "Earmark" for museaum's ... well, that shows that Cesar is a lier. Jesus doesn't promote lying.

Well, if we can't trust the Govt (Cesar) to repair our road & bridges ... I'll be damned before I give them an open check for my health and well being. If we can't trust the Govt. to educate with our tax money ... If we can't trust the Govt. to handel Social Security ... If we can't trust the Govt. with the Prision system ... WHO in their right mind would trust the Govt. with their health???

According to them, Jesus is a card carrying member of the Republican party. He would be for health care and would, in fact, have been appalled at the treatment of children in general. However, the man was just a man and god is pie in the sky.

Yes, I believe he would. His teachings were about compassion and caring in which everyone gets an equal share. And you don't need to be a socialist to be compassionate toward our fellow humans.

Jesus would heal everyone who believed he was the healer, those that didn't believe would remain sick. Check the Gospels, everyone received their healing.

My opinion is that Jesus wouldn't have cared about the issue. That was not his focus.
