"We must, however, acknowledge, as it seems to me, that man with all his noble qualities, with sympathy which feels for the most debased, with benevolence which extends not only to other men but to the humblest living creature, with his god-like intellect which has penetrated into the movements and constitution of the solar system — with all these exalted powers — Man still bears in his bodily frame the indelible stamp of his lowly origin. "---Charles Darwin
If theists can't accept that they are animals, how will they ever be able to treat other animals morally?

It seems to be the case. Yet when humans are accused of being 'just like animals' they are often actually behaving very unlike animals.
Most animals really only live for a few things - to reproduce, eat, and play. Isn't that what so many want each of us to do. (well cut out the fun bit and add worship an invisible daddy
Few animals commit mass murder
Few animals bully and pressure others into behaving the same.
Etc Etc Etc

That I feel is a big hurdle for them. The arrogance to think we showed up on Earth exactly as we are today is what will keep us in the dark ages of thinking for a long time. Does anyone not know about the other humanoid fossils we have discovered that show unequivically we have changed over millions of years? This is not to mention the fact that animals of all kinds have come and gone based on evolution. Unless you belive that God scrapped all of these animals after he created them so we would be "confused" when we found the bones. I know- its another test of faith for us unchanged humans.

I love it how if you put hair all over us (we know how sweat glands evolved, thus resulting in us getting less hairy), we wouldn't look much different from our primate cousins. We are 99% genetically identical, and yet some people think we are somehow not a member of the animal kingdom. It is astounding.'
You have a point, people with this attitude often have the outlook that we are above being responsible for our impacts on other animals and the enviorment in which we all live in. It's quite sad.

When they butcher each other in war what makes you think they will be any different to animals?
What animal ever dropped a missle on a town and blew everyone up> They don't kill what they can't eat.
Men are worst than animals. And more scary because they are the ones with the brains.

I work at a zoo, I see chimps and gorillas every day. Once you spend time with them, get to know their personalities, look into their eyes every day, there is no doubt at all that we are closely related. There are two types of people in this world, those who base their view of the world on what they see and experience and those who base it on a preformed belief that was taught to them. I would much rather put my faith in what i can hold in my hands and see with my eyes than what is written in a book that could all be made up in the first place.

Neil is so right. Humans ARE animals, and we are related to the other apes. This has been proven over and over, and each new piece of evidence supports it. Our genes are 99% the same as a chimpanzie's. This needs to be taught in schools, and those who reject this fact need to be shown for what they are, ignorant bible thumpers.

I remember asking my mom about humans being animals when I was probably 4-5 years old. Never did get a straight answer, and the concept never really bothered me. We're animals, so what? We do cool stuff anyway, in spite of our incredible ****edupedness.

Yes that is one of the reason. They want to be above all creatures and want to be right above all others.
We are animals. Some animals can have human like emotions. They just can't have complex thoughts like us.

Funny enough...
compare a person to a tiger, an eagle or a cobra and they'll feel great...
compare them to a chimp or a gorilla and they'll take offense...
even though the former are not as intelligent as the latter....
