Is it really true that Scientology has the best...?

...Legal defense department.

I've been told that as opposed to any other group (faith, non-faith, whatever) in America, they have the best legal defense team - ie: You can't really write/say too many negative statements against Scientology without being slapped with a lawsuit and being run into the ground.

If true...and Given the amount of....contention on these boards about other peoples viewpoints - how did Scientology carve out this void space of protection for itself?

The only time I am aware of Scientology's really going after people with lawsuits is when people attempt to actively and publicly denounce Scientology with slander and false statements.Even then, it is rare.I would compare their legal department to that of the religious right.And that comparison isn't even correct because the religious right has a stronger legal department.Just look how they have constantly used the "we are victims" claim to justify legislating their beliefs.I am not defending Scientology at all.I am just pointing out that it isn't the only belief based group with an aggressive legal department.

Scientology oposes psychiatry and psychiatric drugs. This is multy billion $$$ industry. So Scientology get black PR back. Millions are spent every year to put down Scientology. Just look for Bob Minton in Wikipedia, he spent like 10 million attacking Scientology.
You can blame a little kid for fighting when he is being bullied every day at school.
The good part is that if are want to sue the pharma industry for dangerous drugs the Scientologist will support you.
All school shootings have something in comon, all those kids were in psichiatric drugs. Think about that.

Actually it seems as though they have pulled back alot. I havent seen anything in years. One site that Im on that used to get alot of attention is CafePress but lately all that has come thru is form letters the same as they get from any other group or celeb.

For that matter, look thru the previous posts on this site. If they were operating at the old level then we would see the results here alot more.

On the other hand, it looks lately like the catholic church has done pretty good in the courts. So I would say that the winner now would be them

That's true. They have excellent lawyers and use them against anybody who speaks ill of Scientology.

It's kinda one of those things where there is NO question as to how crazy it is. If we just hit Scientologist doctrine, it'd be like beating up a 2 year old. Fun and ulimately arousing, but far too easy.
