while i dont personally agree with prostitution, here are a couple reasons it should be legalized.
Saftey-
Legalizing prostitution gives the government the ability to regulate it. They can have forced STD and Drug screening. This helps reduce the number of STD's that get spread from prostitutes. Birth controll would be used so fewer abortions or unwanted/unplanned babies. Also the saftey of the prostitute as Pimps AND clients are notorious for beating and or killing the prostitutes, by being ina regulated place, this can reduce or eliminate that.
Reducing time they are a prostitute- if they ahve to do manditory drug screening, basicaclly cant be a druggy and a prostitute then more women will do it for so long as they need the income, not so long as they need the drug
Income/taxes-
currently this is a non-taxable, black market job. its also considered the oldest profession in the world. By legalizing it, the income is now legal, its taxable, its responsible, and its clean income. The money is now accounted for. This helps our economy.
Cleaning out our prisons and reducing cop need for prostution- So many prison and police resources are WASTED on prostution, that could be used more effectively in other more serious areas of crime. Basically, its wasted tax dollars, and as a high bracket tax payer, i dont want to pay it.
reasons it shouldnt be legalized-
i cant think of any. I will never go to a prostitute..thats my decision, but its not my right to deny that to someone else. They will do it whether its legal or not. There is really no downfall to it.

It is legal in many countries in Europe, and we're supposed to be part of Europe. That aside, there are many people that can't get their 'kicks' other than to use prostitutes, there are many men that have no other alternative. I think, as long as it is controlled (not by pimps, etc)., and health and safety is paramount, there should be no argument against it. Of course, you will have the usual anti-everything brigade arguing against it, but it can't be stopped. If it isn't legal, it will
remain there underground as it is now. And by making it legal, it would help protect those people that really matter, the women (and men) who sell themselves to live, without so many threats of violence. This is, of course, an issue that has been raised so many times in the past, but with changes in society, I don't think legalising it will be any worse than certain other controversial decisions that have been made over recent years.

should so govt could collect taxes and regulate it like in Nevada. shouldn't wow moral majority thinks its wrong ... best answer i can think of.
for person that said degrading please elaborate giving examples please
for those saying std control. most of the upscale girl do go to clinic monthly or so. far higher risk getting from street walker of from picking up girl at the bar. in all three situation u don't really know the person just two out three illegal pay one way or other (buying drinks and mcd's after wards is still paying sorry to break your ethics on that one. also there are men in the business why no talk on them they in same position as the women are.
i love that the main image people get is of the street walker and pimp they hear about on the news. if they knew the truth of the industry i think many wouldnt think so neg of it. first off large majority is companies that do legal busness practices (lic and pay taxes) the workers that choose to pay taxes off a 10-99 listing verity of different things as where money came from. uncle sam not to worried he getting his tax cut from ones that would run completely legal if could. doubt you could keep drugs out of it any more then u can any other job. people put up image that everything so clean wish could see what ur neighbors really are doing think it would surprise you. hollywood has it all wrong but then agian look how many have been caught do u think they really want everyone to know the truth behind the business or keep the image thathas been protrayed for years. the marketable image. im not saying its all kosher, there is the street walkers that arent safe and the underage multi national sex trade both of which need to be controled better but ur everyday proffesional they dont do anything wrong many times they end up opening there own company as they get older. many have family and "normal lives" many may live next to you.

Once it is controlled & regulated by the government the prostitutes will be clean (no STD's) & the crime element will be diminished, as there will no longer be a profitable"black market" for sex.
Some european countries have figured this out, but America still has too much of a taboo on sex.
I suppose you could argue it should not be legal as it would encouage sexual activity, & again we view too much sex as "not healthy" here....

Yes it should be legal. I lived in Germany for 5 years and it legal at that time. They had a system that regulated it. Their income was taxed and they were required to get tested for STDs. I don't understand why it isn't legal and regulated here. If the woman refuses to be part of the regulated system she would still be charged with criminal charges of prostitution.

If it is going to be around, which it is, then the people who are prostitutes should have some type of medical coverage. That way if you need to use one of their services then you can at least be sure that the person is healthy of transmittable illnesses. The only way for this to happen is if the profession is legalized. Morally and spiritually this is only between two consenting adults and I for one will not judge.

It shouldn't because it's morally and ethically wrong, but hey, since when did that affect politics?
also, it spreads social diseases faster. And who wants to walk down the street one night past a bunch of prostitutes?
It should because, like stripping (even though prostituting and stripping are both very different), it's a fast way to make money and some people desperately need that money.

The arguments against it's legalisation usually focus on the potential for the spread of disease and exploitation of niave/vulnerable women.
The arguments in favour of it's legalisation are that it would generate tax revenue, be controllable and so reduce the number of underage girls working he trade and remove the links between other crimes (drugs and violence) and that the prostitutes would be able to recieve appropriate medical checks and that it would remove the trade from the streets to more discrete and suitable premises.
In a nutshell.

truth be told I don't see anything particualrly wrong with it. I mean I can see the pimp side of the business can be seen as a form of control that is illegal. But if some girl wants to walk the streets, known the dangers, and get paid to get laid ... umm ... go for it. Just claim it as income and don't try and beat the tax system and I don't see the issue.

Not me pal, it should be legal. I just think it isn't because they have not found a way to tax it. Look at all the innocent people in jail that are not criminals, addicts etc. Our judicial system is a mess.
