Some people say that taking doses of Zinc and Vitamin C as soon as the symptoms are noticed is effective.

Zinc and vitamin C can help. But Black Elderberry syrup, (there are many brands) and a product called Umcka cold care made by Natures Way, in concert with zinc help a cold go away fast! It works great for me and my family. They are a little expensive, but so worth it, you'll be better in no time. I hate being sick, this makes it more bearable.

Hope you feel better soon!

In order for zinc and vitamin c to work you have to be taking them all the time (even when you are not sick). if you take them once you already have the symptoms it is already too late.
Try tylenol am and pm and sudafed and things like that once you are already sick.

also try sucking on sugarfree hard candies through out the day to draw the mucus out of your nasal passages to help with sinus infections.

You don't, you "weather" it through, like the rest of us. Take in a lot of liquids and get a lot of rest. That's about all you can do.

Actually I do not have more things to do about a cold. just more rest and more water.
