Yes, it is true, it is common in small dogs. One more fact. My little boy dog does it too, i have also discovered that with males in particular it has to do with marking territory. He just started lifting his let this week, and i have been finding more piddles than usual. try to catch him in the act. and snip snip. it is probably territorial.

Male? How old? Is he fixed, if so at what age? Small dog? My male rat terrier lifts his leg on everything. He is marking his territory. I didnt get him fixed until he was 3 and the vet said that it is common in small breeds for males to mark his territory. If there are already dog smells in the house, he will continue to do it. Mine would pee and 2 seconds later come in and pee on the wall. Now I am in a new place and I never let hime get away with it once, he hasn't done it in a year. Be stern.

Our dog was 9 and started doing that for a period of time. The vet checked a urine sample in case it was a urinary tract infection. But it wasn't that, so they said it's a behavioral issue. Have you moved recently? Gotten a new pet? Lost a pet? New baby? Our dog finally stopped, but we couldn't figure out what prompted her to start or stop. Sorry I can't help more. Good luck with that.

He has become accustomed to doing his business in the house. Typically it boils down to two things:

1. Inproper training
2. Infection.

I'd venture to guess that your dog's health is fine, but he may need to be trained from scratch. How old is your dog? You may want to consider crate training and to prevent him from soiling the house, do not leave him unattended.

G'luck
