Tell him about this cool event that will be taking place later... you don't remember all the details off the top of your head, but gee, if he *gives you his number*, you can call him later, and invite him along. ;-)

You can say well im getting a group together to go bowling (or whatever else) in a few weeks so maybe you and some friends would want to go? He'll probably say yeah then say ok well let me call you when i get more details. Then do the number exchange that way.

ok I have the perfect solution for this, after a good conversation, or in the middle of one, or even the beginning you say:
Hey, can I get your number so we can hang out sometime!!!
it's a little round-about and confusing but it works well

just give him your and tell him to call you sometime. and then that way if he does really call you then you know he is interested. good luck!
