The brain's only energy source is glucose, which is a type of sugar. Sugar is a simple carbohydrate. Foods from the fruit, vegetable, and bread/cereal/pasta groups have simple and complex carbs in them, which break down into sugars. Dairy has sugar in it too (lactose).

If you eat a well-balanced diet of the basic food groups and have only the occasional refined sugar or candy, you'll be fine, since your body would break your carbs down into glucose that your brain, nervous system, and entire body can use.

The less refined sugar you eat the better. And you are right, you will get plenty of sugar that occurs naturally in fruits and veggies. Of course there are benefits of living without refined sugar including, more stable blood sugar, less dental decay, clearer skin and the list goes on. You don't even need that teaspoon or two in tea. Good for you and good luck!

There is no downside to not eating sugar. The average person eats 2 to 3 pounds of sugar every week!! YIKES! As you already know, the foods you eat everyday have 10 times the amount of sugar you should eat on a daily basis... Everyone should avoid salt and sugar like the poisons they are... The health benefits of removing sugar from your life are wayyyy too long to list. But saving your teeth and weight management leap to mind. Not to mention that sugar is the fuel that cancers thrive on in the body..how's that for a reason to drop sugar altogether?

Ok, first of all, let's define sugar. You're thinking of sugar as the granulated stuff you put in things to sweeten them. A sugar is any carbohydrate, and they come in all forms. Yes, your body needs carbohydrates for proper brain function, among other things. But, which carbs you eat are important. Stick to whole grains and complex carbohydrates (brown breads, pastas, rice; and fruits). Try to avoid refined sugars: the granulated sugar in your cupboard, soda, sweets, white breads, pastas, and rice.

yes, there is. Glad u asked. A little in tea is ok, and yes the brain needs sugar/ carbs, for function, but the little in your tea will do nicely. Cutting out sugar will be beneficial to u, but don't tell my tastebuds that!! You will be ok, and cut down gradually, and u don't want to shock your system. best of luck!

First of all there are 2 types of sugars. If you eat foods with low glycemic index (low GI) you will still get the sugar you need but it will dissolve slowly and you will not get a "sugar rush".
