try potassium and magnesium. You need to take her to a specialist--a diagnostician, someone who specializes in pinpointing the disease.

Until then, use the RICE formula:

R - Rest
I - Ice (20m on, 20m off)
C - compression (ace bandage, not too tight)
E - Elevation--above the heart

I hope she gets better.

since you didn't say what kind of dr, she should see a foot dr or othopedic dr
ask a dr about gout not all of them have treated it
What are the symptoms?
The most common sign of gout is a nighttime attack of swelling, tenderness, redness, and sharp pain in your big toe. You can also get gout attacks in your foot, ankle, or knees. The attacks can last a few days or many weeks before the pain goes away. Another attack may not happen for months or years.
also go to this web site its used by dr & hospitals a like;
web MD and type in foot/feet swelling and read some of the information
