Lack Of Protein Disease

Two main ones:-

1. Kwashiorkor (which in Central African language literally means "the illness that the first child gets when the second child is born".

2. Marasmus

In both, the low protein diet means lack of growth, so child is small for age with very thin limbs and thin bones.

Also, the low blood protein means that the osmotic pressure of the blood is low (high water potential) so water leaks out into the tissues causing oedema (fluid in body tissues) which shows up as a massive pot belly.

Lack of protein also means not enough antibodies produced (these are also made of protein) so the child is prone to infections.

Hope this helps. If you need more info IM me.

Big Pharma Companies Hate This...

Hello, my name is Ken Drew...

In this short and controversial health exposé, I’m going reveal the one amazing little secret, long suppressed by Big Pharma, that will bulletproof your body against the scary illnesses like Cancer, Heart disease, Diabetes, Alzheimer's, Arthritis and more....and its something that you can do right now in your home.

Without ever popping a single pill, getting any dreaded needle, prescriptions of any kind. Even sidestepping alternative therapies that never seem to work. Ineffective supplements that waste time and frustrate you to no end. Not to mention tear a hole in your wallet...
...Or even put you in an early grave.

Just to elaborate on Kwashiorkor for you: a patient with Kwashiorkor will generally be lethargic (drowsy or lazy), weak, with stunted growth and thin, dry hair and skin. There are also classic sign of oedema (swelling) and poor muscle tone and loss of muscle, both contributing to the 'fat' and 'potbellied' appearance of some of these kids.

If you're looking at treatment of Kwashiorkor, you're also looking at treating a very weakened body/immune system.

So treatment includes:

1) fluids and electrolytes (ions such as sodium & potassium) in the blood first to correct any problems with these, or prevent/treat shock

2) Broad-spectrum antibiotics to prevent infections, and/or specific antibiotics if certain infections are identified, arising form their weakened state.

2) nutritional support with vitamins & minerals, sugars, carbohydrates and fats for energy, given before addition of protein, and introduced gradually.

It's not a single treatment per se, rather a spectrum of treatments. Keep in mind that, if the treatment is started late and the patient survives, any retardation of physical/mental capabilities is usually permanent.

Hope this helps and good luck.

T H is correct. Kwashiorkor is the disease produced where the caloric intake is adequate (usually only barely adequate) to sustain life, but the protein intake is deficient. I saw it in Haiti many years ago. The poor children existed mainly on sugar cane, rich in carbs but zilch in protein.
