I have and I wasn't happy with the results. Especially when a series of numbers I was holding were showing. Then they charged me a crazy amount... called it bail or something

I had some done when I was about 12, and delusional enough to think I could be a model. The headshots pretty much exacerbated my too-large nose and ridiculously puffy (even for the 80's) hair, and my poor mom still had to pay for them.

yes,
I think you should get someone you are comfortable with
who's prices are reasonable, have experience and great equipment(most up to date).
A lot of photographers shoot with 10Mega pixels,
so if a photographer tells you he shoots with only 5....well keep going
Check what they let you have for the money ie (photo, negatives, touch ups, re-shots if there are problems)
shop around because it is you business card.

With a little air brushing (followed by a little sand blasting) I ended up looking pretty good.
