No, no, no...
A piercing should NEVER be done with a gun, ever.
Go to a reputable place or the risks you speak of get higher as does the risk of infection and bad scarring.
You want a REAL piercer who has been trained in proper sterilization techniques, how to prevent the spread of blood-borne pathogens, and how to prevent cross-contamination (i.e. not changing gloves when answering the phone and then piercing you...ew.)
A piercing gun can never be 100% sterilized and the people who use them are no more trained than the guy at the Gap who folds shirts.
A nose piercing (I assume you mean the side and not the septum) hurts a little, like a quick pinch and will be sore for while. The girl who said hers hurt is probably because she got it with a gun and that puts unimaginable strain on the body and damages the tissue. Though you can use titanium (more expensive) or niobium (much smaller selection) I would always go with high grade surgical steel for a fresh piercing. Silver and gold can cause infection and plastic and wood cannot be autoclaved (the thing they sterilize in.)

Your piercer will tell you how to clean it, etc. Even if you think it's healed continue to clean it for the duration or you can still get a nasty infection.

You should use a q-tip and swab the area with bactine or warm salty water (sea salt only.) If there is crust then a warm salt soak will help tremendously. Some people rotate their piercings to get the cleaning agent in the piercing, some people don't. It's your call, but if you do so, be gentle.

Oh, and here's a little read on piercing guns...

Hiya!

Yup unfortunatly you can get infection
But the chances are low, VERY LOW.

Because its a facial piercing it is very noticable so you will see if you get any signs of infection.

When they do it, they use a gun (like an ear piercing one).

Its very quick you just sit on a chair and they talk you through cleaning it and everything, some times they give you a cleaning solution.

They wipe your nose with a cold wipe and draw a tiny dot on your nose.

They will give you a mirror to make sure its in the right place. Once you've agreed the positioning is ok they put the gun in place and do it.

You'll here a loud click, but it does NOT hurt!

Your eyes will water a bit thats it.

To look after it you can use the solution they give you, or use salt water which works just as well, sometimes better.

Hope this helps xx

if u get it professionally done then the chance of gettin an infection is pretty unlikely. I did a lot of research before i had mine done..and it wasn't even done professionally. So far i haven;t gotten an infection at all. and i had it done with a needle. I read that a gun is innapropriate for piercing your nose and it should always be a needle. I don't clean mine everyday either but i wouldn't reccomend u doing that if u dont want to risk it. Use peroxide, warm water and wash ur hands. Luck on gettin that done! jus remember to TWIST tha piercing if u get a stud everyday so that ur skin doesn't grow onto tha piercing..which in tha long run is VERY painful :)

do not get your nose peirced with a gun, they force the skin out in a way that causes too much scarring and generally the jewelry they use is low grade cr$p... it costs more but get a proffessional body peircer to do it, with a needle, it is way less harmful and you should only use jewelry that is surgical steel quality or titanium... the body peircer will tell you how to keep it clean and avoid infection.... Do not let anyone who works in any old shop peirce your skin with a gun!!! You will be left with a hole if you decide to take the peircing out, there is a risk of infection if you do not lok after your peircing and also a risk of developing keluloids, small lumps of scar tissue... the risk of paralysis is minute......

They use a kneedle not a gun.
I have had my nose pierced and gettign it redon today after school
i also have my lip pierced.
It doesnt really hurt it just makes your eyes water
but be carful because when you ever go to take it out it really hurts
Like it gets stuck
And when u sneeze also be carful.
When you are sick you GOt to take it out
(most of the time)
Andd sal water wont get it infected either
mine didnt atleast.
And after you get it pierced so it doesnt get infected try washing it and ask whoever does it for this stuff they have like GELL to put on and it helps from getting infected
(my brother does tattoos and piercings) id suggest you close your eyes and what helps for me is to pinch my self liek on my arm cuz then u pay attention to that not your nose and by the time you even get scared its over

Pain is just weakness leaving your body
So try not to think about anything else.
And good luch hope it looks good :]

ok I agree with all the other comments, especially tiddly winks. I had mine pierced, and it got infected, but mine was done at home, and my daughter's now ex, b-friend, didnt clean his hands after he wiped them on dirty jeans. OUCH!!!! beware of bath poufs, ok?? I washed my face, and put my finger over the stud, and when I thought it was clear, the bath pouf strand, ( it was six inches long) yanked out my stud. I washed my face off, then tried to put it back in, and it had already closed up! I was heartbroken!! Now I can't wait to get it pierced again, and I want to go to a reputable tatoo parlor to do so. Did I mention, I am 40? You kids have all the luck!!! When I was a kid ( in my teen years) the only people who got their noses pierced, were punk rockers, goths, and lesbians. Seriously. I am not jokin'!! Nowadays , anyone can do so, and people don't stare at you. Especially if your stud is small, or a small diamond, which is tasteful. Good luck, and clean it with salt water, oh, and NO CHANGING it for the first 6 monthes! Lots of places hire those with nose piercings, and then they ask u to get a clear stud, it is plastic, and is invisible. I see it in Wal- Mart alla time.

I got mine done at a tattoo shop. They used a needle. I hear needles are better. I also cleaned mine with Bactine twice a day for about a month. It's been fine ever since. I just clean it now when I want to change it, really.

there is no risk of paralysis. thats a load of bull. infection risk is not high if you take care of it properly. they should use a needle. guns are bad to use. do a sea salt soak or just clean it with anti-bacterial unscented soap.

i could get my tongue pierced back, I took it off yet could get it back. It did damage like hell for some hours and that i saved biting on it yet i don't like abdomen because each and all and sundry has that, and that i do not wanna be a follower, nostril it damage like hell and that i changed into bleeding a lot so I took it off for interest. Lip, is a 80's component. and that i have never seen a eyelid piercing. yet i could get a marilyn Monroe piercing though, looks sturdy.

it doesn't hurt, but make sure you get it professionally done and nothing will go wrong.

They use a needle but just close your eyes and relax, don't worry about it.

Also make sure you eat something before hand so you dont faint cos thats what i did lol
Good luck : )
