You have to check for power and ground supplies to the low beam bulbs. Remove both connectors and check with a test light across the connections. If the light comes on, the bulbs are burnt out. If you don't have the test light coming on, move the test light to a known good ground and recheck for power. If the test light comes on, check and repair the open ground somewhere. If it is a problem with the power to the headlights, you have to trace back through the dimmer switch and the headlight switch. Although if you have high beams, it will not be the headlight switch. Usually it is a broken wire inside the column that connects to the dimmer switch part of the multi-function switch in the steering column.

Things to look at
1. Fuse for low beams 2. Relay for headlights (under hood) 3. Switch in dash.

You didnt give a year, make or model. That could help.

If both headlights are good ( replace one to see if its a bad bulb) than you have a dimmer switch that has gone bad . I have seen this many times good luck

You need to replace the bulbs. Low beams always go out first leaving you with nothing but brights. And yes they can go out about the same time.

Do you mean that your daytime running lights do not work but your headlights do?
