I have a couple school loans. However, I have about ten entries from different companies on my report collecting these two school loans. I do not get any mail from these company because of my moves. I don't know who I should contact to start paying them. Is there any free credit help or counseling out there?

It is a government school loan. I really don't think that I can get away with the "7 years rule". They already took my tax return from me this year.

Here's a the Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS) site: http://www.nfcc.org/ . They're a non-profit counseling service.

It sounds like your loans have been passed around to several collection agencies. You may want to start with the original creditor and see if they still own the debts or not. Sometimes collection agencies are just agents and sometimes they purchase bad debts.

At this point, I recommend you don't contact any of them yet. If you do that, you risk starting the aging process all over again on the reported charges. What that means is that there is a period of time (usually several years) that these balances are on your report. Say for example the balance is scheduled to be reported for 7 years and it has already been reported for 2 years. You have 5 years left that this will be reported. If you start calling creditors, this can re-start the aging at a "new" 7 year time period, causing this to remain on your report even longer. I hope that makes sense to you the way I explained it.

What you should do at this point is dispute all the loans you don't feel are yours with each credit reporting agency. In about 30-45 days you will get a letter stating the results of their investigation. You are hoping that there findings result in "deleted" accounts on your report.

If there are accounts that state "verified," or "remains-verified," contact the credit reporting agency demanding proof of the verification.

Once this is clarified, you should have a realistic picture of who you really owe money to. Good luck.

Lastly- make sure you have your credit report from all 3 agencies, and not one (if you don't have them).

first you should always notify lenders of your moves. you can look up the lenders on-line there should be a list on your report. there should be a toll free number you can call and find out where to send a payment. you are young i assume so don't destroy your credit at such an early age. try to clear this up as soon as possible if not this will hurt you later when you want to make big purchases.

when I had some collections on my report that I needed to take care of, I went to annualcreditreport.com and requested my free credit report from Transunion. This report gave me the collection companies name, account numbers, and telephone numbers to contact them with.
