I love America's next top model, but they make it seem like modelling is like performing a heart transplant or something. I understand it's hard work and there is more to it than being pretty, but REALLY it's about looking good, knowing how to pose, knowing how to walk and well, that's about it. I've done a few photoshoots myself, though nothing near that extreme, so I know it's tiring, but it's not like yiou have to go to school, get educated, and solve difficult problems every day, like a doctor or lawyer does. Have you modelled? Is it really that tough or is Tyra Banks dramatic?

Well First of all, America's Next top Model is pretty much over dramatic. If it wasn't all tears and beautiful people, and arguments would you really want to watch it? So first of all, yes Tyra Banks is that dramatic on that show because she's paid to make a model cry, or get mad, or become the most happiest model for that show. But a real model's life is probably not much like that unless you are really something big. But for the most part if your just a company model (Target, Walmart, Etc) You pretty much get paid, take a few photo shoots and leave until you go do it again. But if your a big time playboy model or someone of that fashion, you have to go through alot. I'm sure the majority of them have to devote their lives to being a model, or else they get fired. Think about this, they probably have a personal trainer, a make up artist, a hairstylist, and a person who is constantly telling them what to eat. Not to mention people constantly telling them what to wear. So I'm not sure that the life of a big model is all glam all the time.

I don't think the actual standing there and posing is the hard part. I think it would be difficult when it comes to the actual job part of it: waking up at 5am and being on a photo shoot for 16 hours straight. Also, you have to constantly be on a healthy diet (not a diet to lose weight necessarily, but a diet full of the right fruits/veggies you need to stay in great shape).

It's so difficult to get into modeling, because it's extremely competative field, and you make have "the look" one season and the next season no one wants to work with you.

All that said, it's a job just like anyone else's job--just a little more glamourous than siting in a cube all day.

It can be physically demanding (long hours, the workouts, staying in shape, etc. etc.) and mentally exhausting (constantly worrying & feeling the pressure to "look perfect") -- but as far as "difficult" when compared to things like digging ditches or making life and death decisions of a doctor or stuff like that -- it's not all THAT hard.

Models have no idea what hard work is and need to quit whining. That job is about as hard as sitting in front of the tv all day long. If you even come close to thinking it's hard, dig a ditch, repair a car, cut down trees etc. And, yeah, all they have to do is look good, I don't care what anybody says. I mean, they don't even have to think.

I believe it takes some stamina. You can learn the basic techniques of smiling, posing, at first, but then you have to practice them for hours at a time, sometimes under conditions like you are soaking wet, being blown around by fans, and so forth.

My guess would be that the stress in the job would be the long hours, early/late hours, and the mental stress of always being judged on how you look and treated like an object. But that's why the profession is by choice, I suppose. Nobody is making them do it!

I think it would be extremely difficult to be constantly worried about "If I gain a pound, I might get fired!"

But, like Katie said, they choose this profession!
