There are lots of treatments and medications for IBS. Below is a site with information about the syndrome. It's always good to check with your doctor if it terribly unbearable. Best of luck to you and hope you get better! :-)

There is no cure for IBS. The only thing you can do is be able to maintain it and control it. To do that is through your eating habits. What you need to do is to figure out what foods that cause the pain.
Things you definitely want to stay away from:
hot sauce, salsa, hot peppers, chili powder, bbq sauce, curry sauce, garlic, caffeine as well as drinks with caffein; tea and soda. You can drink it but not too much. Only drink 2 cups a day at most and leave hours in between those 2 cups.
You want to stay away from Sorbitol: an artificial sweetner found in sugar free gum, candies, apple products such as apple juice and apple cider. Canned fruits and canned juices. Some brands of toothpaste have it as well.
Stay away from raffinose. it is found in beans, peas, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, asparagas...they are gas generators.
Aviod potatoe chips, nachos, etc. because they are too large for the body to obsorb....also over consumption of fats...which means dont eat excessive amounts of fried food, margarine, butter, salad dressing, mayo, cooking oils, cheeses, fatty cuts of meat, and other high fat foods. These things you can eat, but not all the time or large amounts. When you eat it once, wait hours before eating another serving of it for the next time.
An ingrediant called Fructose is the heavy hitter. The foods that this is in are the foods that stomach pains and running to the bathroom happen even before you are done eating it...found in dried fruits such as prunes, raisins...honey, fruit juices, soft drinks, and most candies..Skittles is a good example of the candies.
I have found I can eat some of these amounts but I can't a lot and I need to space out each time I do eat it.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic disorder, featuring recurrent abdominal pain and intermittent diarrhoea, often alternating with constipation

There is normally no obvious cause.

Try to eat more fruit and vegetables to increase the amount of dietary fibre in diet

Antispasmodic drugs can slow contractions in the bowel, which helps with diarrhoea and pain eg hyoscine

any foods that are hard to break down ie bread, cheese, sugar
basically fats and carbs and sugar are bad even poly-unsaturates and mono-unsaturates. all fats avoid and eat plenty of fresh fruit and veg and low fat meats ie chicken with skin off and low fat fish.alway check the nutritional value on food products because there are different fat like i bought some fatty fish and next time i bought the same fatty fish and the fat content was bad in both but one was significantly higher i don,t know why there was no oil in both added.excersise and take fluid while u excercise and small meals. it may be important to avoid all fat and carbs completely rather than cut down , it is possible to function properly with no carbs and fats.eating just veg and fruit and meats low fat and moderation of these things should help.if your feeling pain or its getting worse when you eat something then your eating something that is not good for u and it's important that u keep to eating good things and have no slip up ,as it will only get worse. By following this diet u may be saying you need fats and carbs but u don't. fat is produce from calories but in moderation u have to eat foods and not eat too much.if you eat more than burning u put on weight ,weight is fat ,so u don't need fat and carbs it may be necessary too take pressure off your system to give it time to heal and fats and carbs don't relieve pressure so avoid them

Have heard of it, was incorrectly diagnosed as having it. Sorry for your pain. You need to work with your doctor to get proper help for the symptoms and to help you learn to manage them.

My mom has had this for years. Try and eat fibre and drink alot of water. Keeping things "regular" will help.

Yes.

I don't eat a lot of carbs or sugar and have lots of fiber in my diet. That makes it so much better.
