My ex has been serving a yr sentence for non-payment of child support. His ex gf just told me that he told her that he has been working for the past 3 months and was making $14/hr which he was going to be able to keep when he got out. I went to the courthouse and tried to find out why I was not getting his child support payments if he was working. They said that they did not have any records of him being on work-release so they called the county jail where he is being held and was told that he was on work-detail. So is he making money or isn't he? And how is he able to use the phone while he is working to call his ex gf?

Okay, he sounds like a real stand-up guy.

First off, I don't know where you live so I don't know how much the prevailing wage for an inmate in your area is. I know that in New York it's anywhere from .16 to . 46...depending on his education level and what type of work detail he's been assigned to.

I doubt highly that he's making 14 bucks an hour on a work detail. If he is. let me know where you live, because a lot of people would like to go to jail there and make 14 smacks an hour, plus three hots and a cot.

More than likely he's just tryin' to sugar coat things to the other ex. Make it sound like he's got some cash and maybe she'll hook up with him when he gets out....I'm just guessing here. Who knows how the criminal mind works ?

As far as making phone calls ? Inmates can make, usually collect phone calls from their facility when ever they can get to a phone.

If he's making the call from his work detail, he's not supposed to, however, it wouldn't be the first time an inmate on a work detail was sneaking in phone calls because of a lack of supervision. It doesn't happen often but it does happen. If the ex that is getting the phone calls wants to complain to the facility, they'll look into it.

I'm sorry for your problems, I hope that you at some point nail this scumbag for all the money he owes you.

Best of luck.

Me thinks he is lying to the girl friend. Any work that a prisoner does gets little or no pay. Some prisons pay 13 cents an hour or around that because everything is provided for them in the prison and the money would cover extra snacks or postage stamps.

I think she may be trying to get you upset and start trouble for yourself with the courthouse people.

Prisoners make about 15 cents an hour and it goes onto their books for use in the prison. If he is in prison, he is not making $14/hr, he's a liar.

Just make sure the child support enforcement people have the information, and let them decide if he is being paid or not. They have the connections to be able to find out..

NO BODY IN JAIL MAKES ANY MONEY IF THEY DO IT IS PAID TO THE COUNTY FOR THE USE OF INMATE LABOR.
IF HE IS MAKING MONEY ON A WORK RELEASE PROGRAM, HAVE DH FIND OUT THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE FOR COLLECT BACK SUPPORT.
YOU CAN USE ANY PHONE IF THE OFFICER OF THE DETAIL LETS YOU (OFFICIALLY NOT SUPPOSE TO) YOU GO TO THE PHONE AND DIAL THE NUMBER COLLECT.

If he's on work release he can definatly use the phone. If he owe's money though, he should only be able to keep half of it. Your gonna have to talk with a lawyer about this though.

Talk to your lawyer or friend of the court. They should be able to get you part of the money by garnishment.
