Jer 10:23 I well know, O Jehovah, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.

Yes. It shows us that we are in no position as imperfect humans to make our own decisions. Even Adam as a perfect human wasn't in that position. God made us to look to him to guidance. According to that scripture, we can't even direct one step!

Absolutely, human history has proven this scripture to be true.

Regarding Jeremiah 10:23, someone asked, "Does that mean merely that man was not given the right to rule themselves???"

No it means more than that... To illustrate... suppose you go out in the country and buy a cute little piglet, take him home with you and do your level best to teach him how to fly. Show him films on birds flying, teach him how to flap his little legs, talk to him about aerodynamics, feed him bird food and make him bunk in with the chickens for a month or two. ... Then take him up to the top of the barn and pitch him off with the command: "Fly, fly , fly little pig."

What'll happen? Well it's obvious. He'll hit the ground like a brick. Why?? It does not belong to pigs to fly.

Moral of the story: When will man be able to govern himself ?

Answer: When pigs fly...

I once heard this scripture illustrated this way:

You decide you need a new hoover (vacuum cleaner) and when you buy one it comes with a warranty that if something goes wrong in the first year it will be repaired free of charge. However, that warranty comes with a proviso - its only valid if you follow the makers instructions. Therefore, if you after vacuuming your house, you decide to go out into the yard and use it out there to clean up all the leaves, your warranty is invalid when you suddenly realise it doesn't work any more. In other words, if we want the cleaner to work and not to break down, we have to use the manufacturers directions. A vacuum cleaner does not belong outside cleaning up dead leaves.

Its the same with us, if we want to succeed in life, we have to follow the makers instructions. We do not belong outside that arrangement. Listen to God and obey him in everything.

That scripture has so much importance. Especially to someone my age. I want to do my own thing and i want more independence, but i know that in spiritual things and matters of the heart i must lean on Jehovah and he will make my paths straight. Having an independent spirit is very dangerous and i have to make it a matter of prayer to keep myself from going down that road.

We (mankind) cannot successfully rule ourselves
or other men.
Man's History is all the proof anybody ever needs.

In my own life...what a MESS!!!
Always was!
No sure way out.
No real confidence.
No hope for the future.
Not anymore, Baby!!!
I have found the one and only,
true and lasting real Life and Hope...
for the future.
In Jehovah I have hoped.
Lean upon His understanding,
and He shall direct your path.

Oh, yes, I do.
The answer to the Q asked.

When I wake up in the mornings I know it is not up to me to do as I see fit for the day. I must pray to Jehovah God for His direction for me to do His Will that day, and every day. He has the right to tell us how we should live our lives. Doesn't a parent do the same for their children? Even when a child is grown up parents will still give them guidance in their lives.

It shows we should look to Jehovah God for guidance when we make important decisions in our life. No matter how intelligent we think we are, we are still not capable of determining many major issue in our lives.

THIS SCRIPTURE SHOWS US THAT WE ARE NOT CAPABLE OF DIRECTING OUR STEP THAT GOD IS THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS WHAT'S GOOD FOR US.

In no way, shape or form, is that an important scripture. Those who have never heard of it are capable of leading a perfectly happy, healthy, normal existence.

You lose.
