I own a 1990 Volvo 240DL. When shopping for parts, I often find qualifiers such as the part is for VIN "8". How can I tell from the VIN number what VIN type or number or whatever it is that my car is?

Theoretically, they could, yet they'll choose plenty extra suitable than in common terms a VIN. With in common terms a VIN, they'll could touch the dealership to get the particular key, and maximum dealerships won't make keys with only the VIN as a results of glaring protection reasons. The VIN isn't something extra suitable than only an identity selection.

Your "Vehicle Identification Number" (VIN#) is usually on the drivers side right below your windshield. If you stand outside your vehicle you can read the numbers from your dash. Maybe the 8 is referring to the cylinders.

specifically the eighth digit of the V.I.N. number designates the engine actually in your car [from the manufacture] this applies to vehicles built for the 1980 model year onward the tenth letter is the model year A=1980 and so on.
so if memory serves if 8 is your eighth digit your engine is a 2-valve non-turbo LH fuel injected of 2.3 liters for the american 49 state market [no california emissions] and your tenth letter should be "J"
