This present church was erected in 1899 by Father John Velghe. Without any professional training and using house paint on ordinary wood he beautified the church with his paintings.

In those days few Hawaiians could read and so he taught with pictures-most successfully.

Father John, an excellent teacher and self-taught artist, painted the interior walls of the church with some striking scenes of the Bible which depict various important religious truths.
His biblical murals soon became famous, and St. Benedict Church came to be known as "The Painted Church."

well as a response to your response to my question about Jesus and Horus characteristics, let me tel you that catholic church IS NOT and NEVER WAS the church established by Jesus of Nazareth, why: The church Jesus established ended with the murder of peter and all his disciples, and the catholic church was established close to 1600 years ago after the council where Constantine change the bible and called "catholic" as the new religion, cause (if you know a little of the history of the church you worship, protect, and spend your life on it) back in those times was a division of people between the keepers of Jesus and the pagans that believe in Gods like Zeus... so the Roman emperor Constantine in that time, had to do something to lead ALL his people, so he called the "congress" to a council and practically they mixed pagan believes with Christian believe, making a universal religion named "catholic'' (that also catholic means "universal") and the best prove of this is the comparatives between Jesus and Horus... so NO, Satan's church (catholic) IS NOT, had NEVER and WILL NEVER be the church establised by Jesus of Nazareth.

Clear of I have to explain you with sticks and apples ??? XD

I like the murals, but the stripes on the columns are a bit much, in my opinion.

There is a church on Mustang Island near the beach in Texas that has no walls, just a roof.

Beautiful in it`s simplicity,Catholic churches and chapels are way above the blandness of Protestant places of worship.
