I am doing a project for school and am also thinking of actually doing housecleaning as a side job aside from my carreer when I graduate college. Do you think this price is fair?? I would appreciate feedback.

I live in Wisconsin. I have done a cleaning job while I was living in AZ and I got $100 per job and I did every job myself because my boss left me there at the job. But I only got my pay once then she only gave me $5 of the money but of course the money went for rent, then she stopped paying me all together. And the bad thing is I lived with my boss.

Also, what if I only charged them what they felt was appropriate to how well of a job was done?? Would that work???

It depends on where you live. In theory, whatever hourly rate you charge is fine, regardless of the size of the house, because it will take you longer to clean a larger house.
However, in my experience, housekeepers usually charge based on the job. My last housekeeper (in Boise, ID) charged $63 every 2 weeks for the kitchen, dining, living room, family room, 1 bedroom, and 2 bathrooms. The initial clean was more like $130 because it was more work. Once she got it clean to her standards, she just had to maintain it. It usually took 2-3 hours (but there were 2 people). They also brought all of their own cleaning supplies.
Find out what the going rate is in your area, and base your rates on that.

You do not say where you are living, which will affect the validity of the answer. Where I live good housekeepers start at 15.00 per hour, and while you can find someone for less you get exactly what you pay for. Frankly, I could make 9.00 hourly driving taxi, and still have time to do my coursework between fares.
Housework is a job requiring hard work and reliability. People who cannot pay a decent wage deserve to live in filth. Now that I have my degrees and career, I pay my housekeeper 20.00 per hour, which is what I got paid as a working person myself.
Do not sell yourself short. Like I said, taxi driving and waitressing are both easier work than housekeeping, and they pay more than 9.00. You have only so much time, and if you are going to rent it to somebody they should pay you well for it. They are buying a piece of your life, to save time of their own.
How much is that worth?

Hell no!! $9 an hour isn't fair at all. I say charge $15 for small houses and $20 for big houses. Remember bigger the house bigger the mess, and more supplies need to clean it. And supplies are not cheap!!

Depending on where you live that may be a little low to charge. The hourly rate doesnt make any difference to the size of the house. If its bigger you will make more because it will take you longer to clean it.

Hey it depends on where you live. That sounds like minimum wage in Calif. My sons mom-in-law cleans houses, she gets $12.00 an hour.Maybe they pay more other places. It don`t matter how big the house, you just get more hours.

Don't sell yourself short. I have been paid good money to clean houses, if they can afford for you to come and clean, they pay well. My average runs 25-30 dollars and hour.

I live in MA and I just paid my cleaner $80 for an hours work for her and her assistant. Although I think her assistant stole my earrings. If you do this, DON'T be a thief!
