I know Earnhardt Sr was a damn good driver and it was a huge loss to NASCAR when he died, it is nice that he had a son to carry on his name. I am just wondering what you think about Dale Earnhardt Jr other than the fact that he was the son of Earnhardt Sr. Thanks

True I was a fan of Dale Sr..I had followed his son a bit as he was coming up..Dale Jr had to grow on me but when he dad was killed I did start pulling for his son, it was great seeing him do so well, up until the last 2 yrs... Its sad he is having to leave his dad's company, but its for the best, and I can not wait to see him at HMS next yr..He and his stepmom never ever got along even when he was young, its shame it had to come down to him leaving.....But hey, he wants to prove to everyone he can be a great driver, and he would have never done that at DEI....R.I.P Dale Sr, your son is only going to get better...

Go Dale Jr & HMS in 2008..

When I started watching NASCAR in '95, I couldn't stand Dale Sr. I was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. I didn't want to know anything about Dale Earnhardt.

Then in '97, this fresh new kid came into Busch. His name was Jr, but they never said his full name. All I knew was he drove the Chevy ACDelco #3 and he could race. I loved him.

Then one race, I found out who "Jr" was and I was mad because now Dale Earnhardt couldn't be all that bad if he could raise a great new racer like Jr. By mid '98 I was cheering for Dale Sr (along with Jeff Gordon).

So to answer your question, I was definitely a fan of Jr just because he could drive the wheels off that Busch car.

If Dale Jr. was not the son of Earnhardt Sr. I think people would not judge him so hard and they would cut him a break. He is a good driver.... and once he get a Hendrick car under him he will prove himself. But if you are expecting him to be his Dad or someone like Jeff Gordon.... I think that is a little unfair as Gordon and Sr. are something special and what legends are made of.... How many drivers will ever be as good as Gordon or Sr? Only one ever was..... and that was Petty.

Jr. is a great guy and is going to be a great driver because of his own talent, not because of his name!

I like Dale Jr because he is Dale Jr. He has much more charm and personality then his father ever had. I am not a Sr fan , I hate that he is gone , but I think that as soon as people quit trying to make Jr out to be Sr everyone will see that Jr is a great driver and a pretty decent person in his own right. And besides, I love that smile of his.

No, I didn't like Dale Sr. that well. Dale Sr. was as good of a driver as there ever was. But don't fool yourself into thinking that he could have driven today, with all the rule changes, and stay out of the penalties. He would be in the Nascar trailer full time!
I felt that Dale Jr. had talent since I first watched him in the Bush series. He is a good driver, but not as good as his dad!
I would have liked to watch him race even if his name was something else!!!

It's ridiculous to think that people only like Dale Jr because of his Dad.

I started following Jr when he was racing in the Busch Series. He's a talented driver and he's a nice, down to earth guy. The kind of guy you'd invite over for a BBQ or something. His Dad was cool but I like Jr. much better.

When I was growing up I was a Dale Earnhardt fan, mostly because my grandpa was a diehard. When his son started moving through the ranks it was only natural for me to support him too. It was after Dale died, though, that i truly became a fan. We all got to see firsthand a boy grow into a man..and I admire him through all of it. I love that he can blow his 7th engine of the year in a race he had practically guaranteed a victory in, yet in his interview talk about how much it crushed him to see Martin's car blow. He's genuine and kindhearted and even if you don't like him on the track you can't argue about the man he is today.

Well I must tell you. The reason I watched Nascar at all is because of Sr. And yes it transferred to Jr. But then I watched Jr. do some interviews and drive and I have to say he seems like a pretty cool Cat.

I like Dale Jr. because of Dale Jr. Not because of his name. I've followed him for a long time. I like him because he is the best driver out there. I like him because he is old skool and respects old skool. I like him because he is down to earth and doesn't lie. I like him because he seems like a friend to me. I like him because of the passion he has for racing.

I was a fan before the Richmond race this year before the chase. When his engine blew and he got out and got interviewed, to see the emotion on his face, the way he talked, and the way he interacted with his crew chief after the interview... It took it to a level that's above being a fan. I cannot describe it.

As you can see, it has nothing to do with his Daddy or his last name.

I even hate Gordon and Johnson besides the old Earnhardt rivalry. =P

So there you have it. It's not because of anything but the person he is. I can't want to see him in that sparkling green car next year, blowing TEI away in what they wished they still had.

Green's my favorite color, too!
