I thought you claimed to be a monotheistic religion? Yet, you think there is a spiritual being that is strong enough to oppose God?
Before I quit believing in God, I saw the errors of believing in an anti-God character named Satan.
First, God created everything-that would include Satan. Since God is omniscient, would he create a being that would eventually choose to oppose him? The word 'satan' is not in the oldest forms of the OT books humans have, with the exception of the Book of Job. In that story , he is an adversary of humans, but not of God-kinda like a prosecuting attorney for a judge. Read the book. You'll see.
In the Garden, a snake with legs talked Eve into what she did. The snake represented 'evil' but was hardly the same as an anti-God spirit/angel of beauty.
Isaiah 45:7 'I create peace and make evil. I, the Lord, do all these things'.
The name 'Lucifer' refers to an ancient Babylonian king who raised his temple higher than some Jewish worship center, thus the meaning of trying to raise himself above God. The other names (all I can think of now is Baal) in the OT attributed to Satan were names of deities of other religions of the time.
This silly Satan/Hell notion only seems to scare some Christians-not even all of them believe it. Atheists certainly don't. I guess some Agnostics aren't sure-hence the indecisiveness.

C. S. Lewis, in the Screwtape Letters, describes the devil as hungry to dine on humans.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Screwtape_Letters
If Satan uses good business principles, he probably chooses atheists as likely customers of hell. They have few resources to resist any serious temptation. Christians, on the other hand, have teaching, scripture, prayer, and most of all, the protective hand of Jesus in their lives.
Those who hope to resist temptation, stay out of hell, and spend eternity in heaven are more likely to succeed by learning all they can and taking the actions prescribed by Jesus: baptism (Mark 16:16; John 3:5), believing Christ and putting faith in him (e.g., Luke 7:50, 8:12), self-renunciation (e.g., Matt 5:3, 10), repentance (Matt 3:2; 4:17; 18:8-9; Mark 9:42-48), obedience to God, doing what is right and just (e.g., Luke 10:25-28; John 12:50), adopting the humility of a child (Matt 18:3-4; 19:14), eating the bread of life (John 6:51, 53-54), and endurance to the end (Matt 10:22, 24:13; Mark 13:13, Luke 21:16-18).

If there were a satan and people reject god in favor of him why do people believe satan then tortures those people? I could see perhaps torturing those who claimed to follow god but ended up in hell.
I'm not claiming that is in the bible by the way I'm simply pointing it out because it's a common belief.

He isn't wasting his time. That's his job, to make sure the person has all the pleasures of the world. Unfortunately he won't stretch out a hand to a person who "fell" and in need of help. Then they're on their own.

You pretty much have it right. Those who have submitted themselves to Satan are no longer under his attack because he has them right where he wants them. Their soul belongs to him. Those of us that still strive to crucify our flesh daily and walk in the ways of the Lord will always be under attack to try to keep us from reaching the place that God has for us. Satan tries to prevent God's people from doing His works and receiving rewards from Him. As long as you're not following God, Satan doesn't see you as a threat.

He doesn't waste his time with them. They are pretty well left to themselves as he already has them there is no more need to take time with them.
What the evil urchin (the devil) spends his time on are the ones who are already saved!!! Those are the ones whom he would seduce. They are lost to him and he wants to get what he can of them.
The lost ones are already his.
Heck if you already have your cabbage's harvested and in the cold bin ....why would you weed the cabbage patch? The work is already done there.
No ...you would go to the wheat fields and try to harvest that instead. That is where you would spend your time.
So it is with the devil.

He would only bother those in the true religion. But he is not above using false religion to get humans to do unspeakable acts and let people believe it is from God that this things are happening.
