My daughter will be turning 7 weeks on saturday. For the past (almost) 2 weeks we have had a very hard stressful time with her. She has been having a hard time falling and staying asleep. She will sleep maybe 15 minutes then will wake up for about 3 hours, then fall asleep again for maybe 15-20 minutes, wake up again for another 3 hours. This is all day all night. When she is awake she is CRYING. She always seems hungary (we feed her every two hours, sometimes every hour). She seems like she is in pain( more likely gas pains), and she is still spitting up quite a bit.
We have tried almost everything from ...Grip Water, Mylacon, rubbing tummy, massaging back, patting back, putting her legs up to her tummy and putting pressure, bycicling her legs, putting chamomile tea in her milk, changing her formula to a hypoallergenic, adding cereal, rocking her, holding her close, turning on a fan, washer, dryer
sitting her up on the washer when it's on spin cycles
NOTHING IS WORKING.

t ia driving my husband and I crazy. I don't know what to do.
We took her to the doctors a couple days ago for this and that's when she suggested we change her formula to nutramagin and she had told us she is very gassy.
WHAT COULD WE DO TO HELP HER????ANYTHING PLEASE!

Befor we changed her formula to the nutramagin which is a hypoallergetic formula against cow's milk protein she was on enfamil lipil then the gentlease and she did spit up ALOT and frequently but since we have switched she hasn't been spitting up as much.
ALso the doctor was the one who suggested we add 1-2 tea spoons of cereal to her milk.
mylacon and grip water is for gassy and colicky babies

First, I think the woman above was suggesting peppermint oil with honey. DO NOT give honey to any infant under 1 year old b/c you run the risk of a botulism infection. If you/the doctor think is it gas and Mylacon is not working (stuff was useless for us also) ask the dr about Levsin drops. She doesn't have the obstruction (pyloric stenosis) that the other reader was talking about unless your child has projectile (couple of feet) vomiting. Another suggestion is elevating her bed on a slant so that her head is higher than her feet if you think she is having heartburn (reflux). Don't just prop her head up that will just put more pressure on her stomach and make things worse. Keep trying different things until you find the magic combination, enlist others to help you, and rest when you can. Good luck.

you poor thing, It's hard enough being a new mother when your baby is waking up every 4 hours to get fed. Have your tried giving her gas drops? They worked wonders on my baby when he was fussy.
I don't suggest putting cereal in a bottle. Babies shouldn't get cereal until they are 4 months old and only from a spoon.
I would drive my son around the block when i couldn't handle it anymore. I'd pack up and drive soon he was asleep. I would carry his car seat in and let him sleep in it til he woke up on his own.
When she spits up is it alot? My nieces baby had a obstruction and had to have surgery. I wish i knew the technical name for it.
Hopefully the new formula will help. I would just keep going to the doctor til he finds out what is causing it.
Be sure to have your husband take turns careing for the baby. It is very stressful, ask friends and family to come help to give you a break now and again.
good luck.

yes, your daughter has colic. Colic is diagnosed when your baby : cries 3 hours in a row, mostly at night, at least 3 times a week. If you are formula feeding her maybe the formula is too hard on her digestive system and you need to change. Word of advice here: I went trough this with my baby girl and I had to switch formulas 3 times before I found the one that worked for her, and it was a lactose free formula. Generally it is the lactose in milk that makes newborns gassy. Mylicon did worked for me, I gave her 3-4 drops 10 mins before each feeding, and it worked better than just giving it to her in the bottle or just a few minutes before. I guess by giving her the drops 10 mins before they are already in the digestive system when she starts eating. Also, baby oil, put it in your hands, make it warming by rubbing your hands and then massage her tummy with warm oil, it helps. make sure you burp her after every feeding, and don't give up until you hear a big burp. You can also try changing bottles, Dr brown's bottles or avent ones are great at preventing colic. I'm sorry you guys are going through this, I know it is very extenuating & stressfull, I gave you plenty of advice that worked for me, maybe it is worth a try, specially the lactose free formula. My life changed completely after that. Good luck honey, I hope everything gets better before you loose it.

EDITED to say: she has colic and if you keep adding cereal to her bottle it will make it worse, rice cereal is for babies at least 5 months old. Her digestive system is not ready for it yet, stop doing it!!!!!!

You could try giving her a little peppermint water. Just get some peppermint extract and put it in a bottle with a little hone and see if that helps. My daughter had colic too she is the only one I did not breast feed and I had a hard time with her. You can also try wrapping her nice and tight like she is in your tummy that sometimes helps. Not her head of course. They do grow out of it and she may just be a bit spoiled. They love being held! Don't we all?

Ok when a baby has collic they mean that the baby's digestive system hasn't fully developed yet, and it could mean that she's having a very difficult and uncomfortable time digesting her food, just think of when adult eat spicy food and then regret it later, same concept. My niece had the same thing and her doctor put her on zantac the acid indigestion medication. That helped alot!!! She stopped crying and throwing up!! It could very well be collic, and changing formula and adding cereal doesn't help. Ask her pediatrician if putting her on zantac, I believe she was on 5mg's, would help her out! I hope this helps you and good luck!

I'd go get a second opinion from a different doctor because it sounds like it could be more than just gas. The baby could have colic but why not get a second opinion just in case its not.

I would say she was reacting to something in her formula.
Try a soy formula. Or goats milk? If she has tummy pains, it's not a sleeping thing. She hurts. If you find a formula that agrees with her, she'll sleep.
