I had laparascopic surgery done on September 18th, 2007 to repair a large incisional hernia. I also had a condition called Diastasis Recti between my breast bone and my naval. My surgeon felt both the diastasis recti and the incisional hernia needed to be covered in mesh, as he said once the incisional hernia was repaired, the diastasis recti would become the weakest link, and would wind up causes me problems. However, I had no heartburn problems prior to surgery, and now I cannot sleep unless I am sleeping practically sitting upright. "Mylanta" gives me some relief while I am trying to sleep; but I want to know: Has anyone had this problem after a surgery such as this? WHEN WILL THIS SLEEP DEPRIVATING HEARTBURN GO AWAY??

the mesh tends to compress things inside the abdomen, so your stomach simply is getting compressed, and while this is so, the acids can splash up into your esophagus. You need to eat less, more frequently. You need to not eat at least four hours prior to bed. You need to raise the head of the bed about four inches, put a brick under the head end feet. This enables gravity to assist you in keeping the acids in your stomach where they belong. You can also take Tagamet, available over the counter to reduce the amount of acids you produce.

Overprodouction of hydrochloric acid in your deodenuum stomach is the main cause of hyperacidity. What trigger these after your surgery is a big? Refrain from eating acidic and fatty food ie steak, humburger, fried items ect, instead eat lots of fruits & salads. Mylanta or rolaids are not the best remedy. Go back to your doc for repair.
