In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

How come everytime something is discovered and has some type of scientific proof behind it, its automatically assumed to be planted by satan? Hasn't it hit you yet that, you know, maybe if things like this keep coming up that it actually existed and wasn't just a scheme by satan to cause you to have your moments of doubt? This is an excuse used to feel better about what you believe, not something that is actually true.

This i s TERRIBLE news for me! I believed that the Bible was 100% accurate, and since this shows that there were people BEFORE the stated history of the Bible, I just don't know what to do..

I have to change everything now. Where do I go? What do do? Is it possible for me to live this life and find happiness outside of what I once believed?

I realize that now, I MUST change my beliefs because of EVIDENCE!!!

I do know an atheist who seems really happy - I think I'll start talking to him.

to all those that keep saying "carbon dating is unreliable" I'd love to hear your evidence of that. One said in a previous post that a snail was dated at 1000 years old....they probably fail to realize that yes, ONE test can become corrupt, so they test AGAIN as verification...please before you try to argue with science at least try to understand the scientific process just a little.

Why would you think it is of Satan? The carbon dating? It is easily skewed when the sample has been exposed to water or, in this case, fire to make the charcoal that they must have used for the dating process.

"God made dinosaur fossils to test our faith!"

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Radioactive-carbon dating may not be 100% accurate, but it's close enough. You can't account for the creation of diamonds and oil due to millions of years of pressure and heat as simply because "God put them there!"

I have said this before and I will say it again. Only a small fraction of Christians go for the idea of a 6,000 year-old earth. The vast majority of Christians have no objection to modern ideas of science, archeology or history.

If you insist on believing the bible, I guess it must have been, since it's 11,000 years old. If you insist on believing the bible, you'll have to say carbon dating is wrong, even though carbon dating has been proved to be accurate.

If you insist on believing the bible, you have to say all science is wrong, even though you fly in airplanes.
