Hello, I sing as a hobby, but prefer to sing songs rather than scales as warmup. Do you have any suggestions for good songs for this purpose? Im looking for something that tests the vocal chords bit by bit, gently coaxing them to loosen up very gradually.

well sing a do-mi-so-do arpegio with the words i love to sing. Another good one is do a dear from sound of music. I also enjoy to do my country tis of thee in three or so different keys. Another idea for you is this peter piper song that really helps with your consanents! The words to that song are, "Peter piper picked a peck of pickeled pepers, a peck of pickeled peppers peter piper picked, if peter piper picked a peck of pickeled peppers, where's the peck of pickeled peppers peter piper picked? " When doing that pick up the speed as you go and it is fun!!

"Do Re Mi" from The Sound of Music immediately came to mind, because you're doing a scale while singing a song!

Also, whenever I go to karaoke night, I have a bunch of songs I think of as "warm-up" songs because they don't really stretch my vocal chords too much but they have a nice range to them. Here are some of the ones I like:
"Son of a Preacher Man"
"Me and Bobby McGee"
"Both Sides Now."

Happy singing!
