Do any of you 40 and 50-somethings think it's hilarious that our parents made fun of us for sticking "like" in the middle of a sentence, and now our kids and grandkids are doing it too? Would they do it if they realized they're talking just like us?

Yeah, well, there you go!
Without giving away my age, I remember teachers complaining about using "like" instead of "as" (if you remember the old cigarette ad "Tastes good like a cigarette should").

I don't use 'like' a lot when I'm speaking English, but a few girls in my class use it a lot as a filler word when they're speaking and it really annoys me. I don't mind it if you're implying about a past interaction with someone ("and she was like, ...!"), but if you're talking too fast/using it as a filler word constantly, then you really need to find an adjective to take the place of 'like'! Or take a short pause to regain your speaking and move on.
