I'm taking out a girl I knew in highschool tomorrow for our first date. I Really like her and I know flowers are a big no on the first. What can I do to show her I'm excited about her and suprise her tomorrow, without getting carried away?

I wouldn't say that flowers are a big no - just make sure it is simple and understated - daisies are a good choice or a simple bunch of lillies. If you really want to keep it understated, instead of a single rose, pick up a single Gerber Daisy.

Don't go the roses route (they are overdone and don't show any imagination)or buy the biggest arrangement in the store. Keep it simple...
you don't even have to go to a florist - the local grocery stores have a great selection in most cases - find a simple bunch of flowers that you like and have the florist there tie a simple bow around them.

Barring that, find something significant to your high school days - maybe dealing with the mascot or a club you were both in or something that is reminiscent of a personal joke between you two.

Most importantly, you want something that will show her that you pay attention to the details... that's how women know you like us.

A single rose is a lovely idea. Try a pink or yellow one. A red rose means romantic love or passion. Pink means "I like you" and yellow is more along the lines of friendship. Regardless of the color, a rose usually signifies a stronger than average feeling. If you're concerned with being too forward with flowers a single rose in a softer color and a softer meaning is less threatening.

Flowers in something bright like purple, orange, and white daisies are great, or a single pink rose. Nothing extravagant. Don't over do it, but you still want to make a good impression. Girls love to be spoiled but if you over do it she will expect it all the time. So stick with something simple. And don't bring something every time you go out.

Whoever told you that flowers were a big no doesn't know what they are talking about. It doesn't have to be roses but flowers are nice.

I think flowers are perfect-- you don't have to do a big bouquet, but even a single rose is cute and nice to get on a date.
