I have a Mitsuba DV304, exposure is not adjusting properly. Camera is new, icon of a hand with fingers cutoff?

Question

There is a red icon on the screen with a hand that appears to have fingers cutoff to the side. I have try adjusting the exposure value, and notice small changes, but not enough to get a picture worth keeping.
