It's all about our perceptions. Unfortunately, many people fear the "dark" side so much that they never come to terms with the fact that you must recognize it and acknowledge it within yourself to be truly balanced. All the focus on "goodness" and "light" only makes for misery and lack of balance. You have to know and see the darkness to appreciate the light.

The "dark side" of the year is neither good nor bad - it simply exists. Night, winter, cold... there's nothing "evil" in them, even when people interact with them. It's just part of the natural cycle. Might be a bit tough for people - harsh winters can be difficult to live through - but they're not necessarily bad.

Nope, no dark side, no such thing as black magic, satan is a christian concept so has no place in wiccan mythology from where samhain and therefore Hallowe'en originate.

Hallowe'en in fact means all hallows eve, and is a christian creation designed to knock out a pagan festival, samhain, with November 1 being all saints day, all hallows eve is all saints eve.

You are right on one point, all forces are neither good nor bad, it is what mankind does with those forces.

Next up the fictional rubbish known as christmas!

Right forget your modern day wiccans, lovely ,but nu agers still....the christain church demonised all hallows, being a pagan I believe in the devil as much as I do the bible,so I aint no saddo satanist, all hallows eve is a time when the veil between life and death is opened for a short time, this was a way to show our love and respect for dear ones since departed, this American halloween is just a bastardization of a very ancient pagan ritual,a bit like the Mexican day of the dead.
I set a place at the table for my father who died when I was teenager,I think in truth he moved on a long time ago,but it is my way of honouring his memory...so please forget all this trick and treat crap and association with the devil,it is simply a way to honour the dead and sometimes when they want they come to visit with you...that is what all hallows is truly about, long since commercialised but true never the less..

No, I think all spiritual/religious icons or beliefs represent only the extremes of the concepts of good and evil. As long as people are not hurting anyone else or trying to impose their beliefs on anyone else I believe they should be free to believe whatever they choose. Personally I choose Humanism and Science over blind faith.

I do believe in harmful and beneficial energies....I honestly couldn't tell you which is which for you or me....all things can be interpreted as either or.

The interpretation of which not only determines how we progress from that point onward but also illuminates our soul's disposition.

I concure with your first answer. You must experience the dark to appreciate the light. And in addition to that....You must pass through the darkness of ignorance (symbolically speaking) to enter the light of knowledge.
