Commercial Building Color?

Question

My boss tells me that there is a reason that warehouses and commercial buildings are painted white. Can anyone prove that or back it up or is he just talking out of his you know what....?

I imagine so they will 'look' more impressive. White has been associated with importance for a very long time after all. Incidentally, it also helps show dirt- if dirt is something you have to watch out for.
