"But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin," (Heb. 3:13).

There are people who think that they are smarter than sin. There are those who believe that they can ignore their sin without consequence. Some believe that if they leave their sin un-confessed, without repentance, then with time its pain and consequence will fade and that they will be fine. But this is a lie that sin itself casts upon the deceived. Sin is greater than we are, smarter than we are, stronger than we are.

Sin always has a consequence. It always has an effect. It is a deceitful and cunning adversary. It abides in us, as part of us, and shows us it is alive all too frequently. Only the fool thinks that his sin is not important, or that he can ignore it, not deal with it, or that it isn't that bad, or that it will just go away by itself. It never does; at least, not on its own. We cannot outsmart sin. We cannot outthink it, or be stronger than it, or be more enduring. As soon as we have sinned we are its slave (John 8:34). As soon as we have committed the act against God, we have insured judgment (Rom. 1:18-32), unless....

Unless, you come to the cross and repent. Only through the cross can we be cleansed of our sins, escape the judgment due to the one who commits it, and have the light of God's truth shed upon its deceitfulness so that we might not fall prey to its dark cunning again. There is no other way. There is no other hope than the cross of Jesus and only through it, can we be encouraged day after day, knowing that Christ continually cleanses us (1 John 1:7-9) and frees us from its bondage. Praise be to God that he has provided a way to be free from the deceitfulness of sin.

I was thinking of a way to put a recent experience I had to question.Thank you for providing an "open door".

Mrs. K our children's bus driver has not been the same person we have had through the years. In the past, she has always honked if the children were late to get on the bus. She would often go out of her way to accommodate the children such as in bad weather. Many times she would drive up to individual houses so the children didn't have to stand in the rain or freezing temperature.Mrs. K has spoiled us for years now.

That has changed, and now she has been the complete opposite. Its 7:30 sharp and if their not standing there when she gets there, they are left. The children say she is cranky with them and just not the Mrs. K that we have grown to love.

Well if she wanted to be that way, that was fine with us.We didn't need any special treatment anyway, is how we felt. And further more she could do without the treats the children would take to her sometimes.Besides, we were "christians", ouch that hurts to say that! Its so obvious that God isn't finished with me yet.

Our son came in from the bus yesterday.Mrs. K didn't drive today he said, we had a substitute."They said Mrs. K's daughter died."We didn't know that her daughter was even sick.As I thought about it, I felt so ashamed of how I had felt, how could I have allowed that liar to deceive me into believing that our Mrs. K had changed into a grump. She had brought such laughter and joy to our children throughout the years and as her child lay dying we had not one word of comfort for her.God forgive me, I am not who I thought that I was.

Please pray for Mrs. K.

YEs, and much more on that subject. God calls us to be overcomers of sin, by the indwelling of the HOly SPirit. God says IF YOU LOVE ME< OBEY ME. ITs not just a mere suggestion. In 1 John 3:9 we are told those born of God cannot sin. So when we hear grace covers all deliberate continue willful sinning. GOD FORBID is the response to that nonsense.
By the power of the sehd blood of Jesus upon that cross, we can overcome sin, and we are commanded to do so
We arent helpless little pathetic christians who keep trying not to sin. Thats the old way... New way is this, we are a new creation, once we have subbmitted to the full will of God, and begin to live like and think like Jesus, with the excelelnce of character and obedience He alway gave to the Father, then we will be as reviled by sin as GOD is, and just say no to sin.
God bless you for the question .

Sin is a reality that many don't want to face. It forces us to come to the realization that we need a Savior, one that cannot only save us from our acts of sin but also from our sinful nature.

Praise God that He made a way! The message of the Bible is that we cannot overcome our fallen natures no matter how sincere we are or how hard we try to be "good."

In Christ, when we walk by the Blessed Holy Spirit who dwells within us we overcome our sinful nature. When we don't rely on Him and obey Him, we'll sin every time!

Dwight Edwards said it best in his "Revolution Within" book that "Sin is like chocolate covered Alpo..." It looks so tasty and delicious until you bite into it and swallow it!

There are consequences to our sins, but for those in Christ "There is therefore now no condemnation..." (Romans 8:1) because He set us free from the law of sin and death. We are set free to live holy lives! Free to be Holy! Free to be who we were meant to be!

The deceitfulness of sin tells us that the Blood of Jesus is not powerful enough to forgive us. It is common, like the blood of bulls and goats. It tells us that Jesus did not forgive all sin forever. It tells us that Jesus did not reallly conquer sin and death...we have to help Him. It tells us that sin can overcome God's mercy and that God is a liar.

It makes us self focused thether we are plagued by sin or not.

Whether you feel good about yourself or bad about yourself you have an unhealthy preoccupation with yourself....

Focus on God and His righteousness. Let go of all that you count as "gain" spiritually.

Paul said it like this (paraphrased loosely)

If anyone attempts to glorify themself in the flesh, I did a better job at it than you will ever be able to do. After arriving at the pinnacle of moralty in God's law, I had to suffer the loss of all of my moralty and righteousness and everything that I counted as gain to know Christ and be found in Him....knowing His righteousness...so that somehow I might attain the resurrection of the dead.

Peace.

The world is quite a mess! Satan, who was the supernatural antagonist aginst God, not only deceived Adam and Eve, but has been deceiving mankind ever since! Jesus came into the world to destroy Satan's deception.

Satan uses other people to deceive through false religions, cults and isms. Satan deceives through rationsalization... "Everyone is doing it!". Satan deceives humanistic philosophy with the "me generation", all truth is relative, & my truth is just as good as yours. We even deceive ourselves when we claim to be without sin.

Cling to Jesus. Cling to Jesus! I need to stand firm, or else I too, will be deceived.

Sin certainly has a way of creeping into the life of a Christian sometimes......I'm guilty of it too.

Our job is to use the open door that God gives us when the temptations come....

And they DO come

Until we come to repentance and are filled with the holy spirit I don't think one can understand how deceitful Satan is. I'm so afraid for those that are blind and can't see the forest for the trees.
