What concerns me about this aspect of President Bush is twofold. First, words from God for a whole community are supposed to be offered before the community and tested and the President does not follow this rule. Second, as the leader of a democratic and therefore pluralist state government, all his actions should be subject to public universal reasoning even if they are motivated or originate in personal religious conviction. The fact that he does neither is very troubling indeed.
Also troubling: his obliviousness to public opinion. he doesn't do what is popular and that is supposed to be a virtue - as if in a democratic nation the peoples' will SHOULD be ignored. On the contrary, at the very least a good leader would admit and address those concerns rather than merely calling people fickle and insultinga nd belittling them. And when they turn out to be right show a little humility, which is a primary Christian virtue.
Also, the turning the cheek thing and beating our swords into plowshares. Not sure how he deals with it but I suspect those particular pages in his Bible have never seen the light of day while the sparse passages on homosexuality are highlighted and annotated in the margin.
"The aristocrat choir sings,
'What's the ruckus?'
The haves have not a clue.
Blackout weaves its way through the city."

I do not find that particularly offensive, we all talk to God in one way or another. I find it more offensive that he has become what the world views as a modern western Christian.

"Speaking to God" just means praying. Every organized religion have their own form of that. Big deal. It's his business.

Bush lies. Am I offended he lies? When it has effects on the welfare of US, both internationally and domestic. He's done a meager job. He's just trying to finish out the term without a congressional hearing.

Not at all.
I do find it offensive, though, that he tries to speak FOR God.
HUGE difference...

No, I'm glad to know he does. All Christians speak to God. I'm sure that all past Presidents have spoken to God; you just don't know it.

I'm surprised. I thought they'd be a lot more embarrassed by him...especially when he made his little speech that his 'other Father' advised him to go to war.

can he not be both blasphemous and an idiot?
the speaking to god is not the issue. the issue is that he believes god speaks directly to him.
i think his direct connection to god is the result of intoxicating megalomania and poisonous arrogance.
