Tell him to go to court. Don't listen to the PD. They are working for the prosecution.

I know that you can get legal aid in the UK if you do not have the money to pay for a legal representative in the court. Go to the citizens advice office to ask for information. In the US some legal companies do something to help people like you as a social commitment to the community, either for free or at a rate according to your ability to pay.
I am not 100% sure about this but you must be able to get some advice from any legal advice company for free for the first meeting.
Good luck! Stick with it and it will get sorted out with your help.

IF he's telling the truth, it's not gonna matter. Without money, a PD is your only recourse and that's the way PD's work. They assume that you are guilty and try to make a deal, rather than actually go to trial. Two reasons for this, as I see it. #1. incompentency #2. too heavy case load for the PD's office.
Sorry to say, but Mike's goin away for a while, whether he's innocent or guilty.

I am not an attorney, but i do know that if you are innocent and your PD is simply trying to plea you out for the sake of not doing his job. you can contact your Court house and ask if they have any listing of Pro Bono Attorney or some state legal services that are based on income. Sometimes there are DEFENSE attorneys that are passionate about their jobs and for sake of JUSTICE will take cases as PRO BONO, read your newspaper or TV commercial sometimes those well known Attorney will take case (proBono) and write it off..it does not hurt to ask the worst that could happen is them saying no.

are you in UK? sounds more like the states.
you should be entitled to legal advice?
has Mike touched the packet? you can insist that the packet is tested - in court the police have to prove he had it in his mouth.
they can't just say so.
police are not supposed to touch anyone if they are on their own, to avoid this.
did they arrest him before they found/ planted the drug? did he make a statement? let legal advice, there's always free advice online - do search for free online legal advice.
not enough details but if true you need to sort it out.

tough situation, especially if the public defender is dismissing your claims... is it possible to "fire counsel" and get a new, different public defender? ask your court or research it online... even call a lawyer and just ask him that, they don't charge for questions like that because they can answer them in 2 seconds... best of luck.
DRUG POSSESSION is a VICTIMLESS CRIME, and the reason why our jails/prisons are so overcrowded. Legalize class D narcotics!

We are not free. We just think we are. Only people who have monney enough can have a litle bit of freedom, but can not see, speak or hear. Only world owners are free to decide, but we do not know their faces. They are hidden and deciding.
