Jesus pretty much said it himself, "None can come to the Father except through me." And if you really study the Bible, not just a surface read which is more than most people give it, you'll see that the whole Bible points to exactly this.
Adam and Eve sin and God covers their nakedness by killing an animal. God asks Abraham to offer his son as a sacrifice but at the last minute he provides a substitute sacrifice. The whole nation of Israel pretty much fails to achieve Holiness through the sacrificial system. Then later Old Testament prophets talk much about the coming King and also how our sacrifices aren't good enough.
Then Jesus comes and is the one sacrifice that is adequate to pay for our sins. It was God's plan from the beginning. When we sinned, all of mankind was separated from God and Jesus' death was the only thing that could bridge the gap.
I realize that you probably don't get it, because like the answerer before quoted, the cross is foolishness until you get it. And when you get it, it is eternal life. I pray you'll get it.

Sorry for sidestepping
We cannot earn it. Heaven is not gained by good works. Only faith will earn it. He is our Savior because He took our sins upon Himself and died for us. He then rose from the dead and conquered death.
There is no evidence for faith or else it would not be faith! Faith is believing in what is not seen. That's what makes it faith.
Why is it necessary? It is the only Way. All have sinned and the only way to be forgiven is through faith in Christ Jesus. It may sound crazy to the world, but it makes sense if you dont think about it.
You do not have try to be perfect to be saved. You have to have faith, and then you will be made perfect

I will try not to side step here....
Peter, Paul, Philip, all the apostles, teach that we are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. When Peter preaches his first sermon to the Jews, he teaches about a Christ that had died and resurrected, and calls them to baptism and repentance.
It was not possible for the Holy One to see corruption. God can not look upon sin, in the OT He required a sacrifice for our sins. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of all.
You must repent and be baptized.
Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles: Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said to them: Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:37-38).
This process of salvation and its elements is valid today as it was then; more is not required but less is not demanded. If faith in Jesus is true faith, a change of life must take place, in our relationship with God, and in our relationship with our neighbors. If these elements are not present, there is not faith of conversion, which is the only one that gives salvation.

There is actually 2 answers to your question...
1) Faith is not the only requirement. (James 2:26) Demonstration of that faith by following in Christ's footsteps is also mandatory. (1 Corinthians 5:7-13) People always talk about "believeth in the Lord" etc... but they fail to read the rest of the passages. Christ said to be his follower, which would mean doing things the way that he did them. Therefore a true Christian would have no involvement in anything of this world. Things such as politics, war, fighting, fornication, pagan celebrations, lying, cheating, disrepect for authority, drunkeness, drugs, violence on movies and TV, foul language would have absolutely no place in a Christian household because these are things of the world and Christ would not associate with those who had such things (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Those who did bad things before meeting Christ, in order to continue with him, had to leave such things behind.
The second part of your answer is this...
A question... What if Adam and Eve had not sinned? Where would they be? The answer is: still alive on this earth living forever and it would be a paradise just as God had intended as shown in Genesis 1:28-31 and 2:15-17. Can God's purposes be thwarted? (Isaiah 46:10,11 & 55:11) No. So, if that's the case, God's purpose for the Earth remains the same. So, when you follow Christ, the reward for humans is not in heaven, it's on the Earth.
Psalm 37:10, 11, and 29 all speak about wickedness being done away with and the righteous persons and meek ones inherting the Earth. This is further shown in Revelation 21:3-5 where it says that God will reside with mankind, in a tent, not that mankind was going to reside with God. A tent is a temporary structure for when you're away from home, thus this implies because, both by residing with man (the realm of man is the Earth), and God using a figurative tent (away from home, home for God is in Heaven) that these: no death, tears, or pain are going to take place on the Earth. Plus, death, tears, and pain do not occur in Heaven anyway.
So, if people don't go to heaven when they die, what happens?
Genesis 3:19 says, after he sinned, that Adam came from the dust of the ground and to it he would return. Did Adam exist in heaven before he was created? No. So God said that he was going to return to where he came from, the dust, a state of non-existence, just as he was before he was created. So according to the Bible, when you die, you go to a state of non-existence. This is also supported by Ecclesiates 9:5, 10 where is speaks of the dead being unconscious and lacking knowledge or working. Psalm 146:4 also says that when a man dies, he goes back to the ground, just like God told Adam in Genesis. Ezekiel 18:4 says that the soul dies when it sins, so there is no seperate entity that leaves your body when you die. Your personality is your soul. Job 18:20 talks about the death of the soul as well.
Also, there were some resurrections that took place in the Bible by Elijah, Elisha, Jesus, and some of the Apostles. Never is there any mention of heaven by any of those that were dead. As a matter of fact, it would have been unkind to remove someone from their "heavenly reward" to return them to Earth.
There are 3 terms used in the Bible for grave. Sheol (Hebrew), Hades (Greek), and Hell (English). All 3 describe the same place of non-existence. The Bible even says that Jesus was in hell (Acts 2:27, 31, and 32). Hell is not a place of punishment, but of non-existence. The Bible at Romans 6:23 says that the "wages sin pays is death", therefore, if you have died, you have already paid for your sins, thus continued punishment afterwards is unwarranted. God is a God of love and justice and He does not use eternal torment for those who are disobedient. They just simply don't exist anymore as their punishment. Those who were good who have died are in God's memory (Revelation 20:12) and will be resurrected (John 5:28,29 & 11:25; Acts 17:31; Revelation 20:13) , not to heaven, but to the Earth (Matthew 6:9,10, once it has been restored to it's paradise condition (all of Isaiah 35) and will live forever upon it (Psalm 37:10,11, and 29; Ecclesiates 1:4; Psalm 104:5).

Of course it could seem irrational- who would ever die for the sake of someone's salvation, and give up their life the sake of desiring us to have a relationship with him. Jesus did? Why- because God loves you - I know that Jesus died for me, the relationship that I have with Him is real- if you take that step you would realize it as well. I cannot understand how anyone would not accept Him- however there are people , and God said that there would be people who choose not to believe- however if you are one of those people, what if we are right? And by the way= JESUS IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE.

Agreed. As a Buddhist, I've never come across people, asides from Gym teachers side stepping discussions on sex during sex-ed, that avoid questions more then religious.
I've asked questions and been told I received an answer when all I got was 3 more questions to ask because what I was told was highly illogical and built upon a mess.

Perhaps the reason you say that our answers are "sidestepping" and not rational is because they don't agree with you.
Jesus died; His blood was shed as an atonement for YOUR sins and mine, as blood was the required atonement for sin. That single act is the only thing that makes the forgiveness of our sins possible, and you don't take sin with you into heaven; therefore, you must accept the atonement He provided or no heaven.
But you will find that 'unlogical' and 'sidestepping' no doubt....because you don't believe.
"I can see how it might be possible for someone to look around on earth and not believe in God, but I cannot conceive how anyone could look up into the heavens and say there is no God. " ---- Abraham Lincoln

Jesus is God and Jesus payed the price for our sins on the cross . He was the perfect sacrifice without spot or blemish.
John 3;17 says For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son so that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 14:6
Jesus said I am the way the truth the life no man cometh unto the father but by me.
John 17:1-3
1) After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.
2) For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.
3)Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
Jesus is the only way of salvation because He is the only One who can pay our sin penalty
(Romans 6:23).
23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
No other religion teaches the depth or seriousness of sin and its consequences. No other religion offers the infinite payment of sin that only Jesus Christ could provide. No other “religious founder” was God become man
John 1:1,14
1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God
14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
the only way an infinite debt could be paid. Jesus had to be God so that He could pay our debt. Jesus had to be man so He could die. Salvation is available only through faith in Jesus Christ! “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved
Acts 4:12.
12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

thank you ,thank you ........I think the same way. Most christiains who think claim to that in order to get into heaven , you must believe in Jesus don't wan to answer the following. Well the muslims believe in jesus and actaully has the utmost respect for him as a PROPHET which he always claimed to be and I should note...jesus used to pray by putting his head on the grond like muslims ( if he was god or his son? Is he going to put his head down on the ground and pray to himself? ) he used to greet people by saying peace be upon you (salam alikum /muslism) . He used to fast for a month ( ramadan) . He didn't eat pork (which is prohibited in islam) and it says right there in the bible to cover the heads of woman and not eat pork. His mom covered her head (which we still do) . She also has an entire chap. in the koran becasue she was a clean respectable woman in ALlah's eyes Note....Allah is God , it is just the proper name of god without gender or PLURAL reference. Ok this is what I don't understand in christians mentality.....We have had prophets through out time and honestly why would god show himself in a human form and if you want to label jesus divine by being god son then why didn't you guys choose Adam? he had no mother or father and he was in heaven with god? listen it not farfetched to believe that he was a prophet like ones before and after him. God has always bestowed by his leave miracles to all of them. And using common sense, If god was 3 or 1 in 3 how u wan to describe it, why didn't he come to earth and say "hey I saw 3 gods and announce that to the world ? Or Abraham etc....) Why wait until Jesus? In the bible to they acknowledge the coming of ahmed(muhammad) and his name was in the original torah! Would it not make sense that a prophet was goign to come from Issac and Ishmael? I'm sorry to say , but for some of the smartest minds throughout our history w, it's a shame that so many people have been brainwashed into makeing this an actual religion which derived from the deal the romans and pagans had hence, the cross and many more are all pagan symbols. And my last point is , We conceive children when the sperm fertilizes the egg right? you can see even on moitors now with our technology how its' done, but ultimately wheather its the sperm meeting the egg or not, Its ultimataley God who gives life to the embryo , Don't you know that its easy for god to have given that miracle to Mary, just like were given throghout time to every person who conceived a child.

sure, yet which could additionally practice to each and all the instructions that God supplies us if it is the case....All six hundred plus instructions in the process the Bible might could practice and not in basic terms the few which you have discovered to be much less committed....additionally, God isn't clean on "how many" instructions we could constantly obey to be totally committed....in basic terms that "if we've faith and characteristic the "faith" of a mustard seed" the element that I even have discovered is that the extra time I spend with the LORD the extra faith I attain and the less complicated it turns into ....And the extra distant i'm from God the less complicated it truly is to fall for the lies of devil....
