the best trick is to find out something he's interested in - even if it's not something you're into like sport - and ask him a question about it. Answering your question will make him feel smart and you get a chance to smile prettily and thank him. If he's got any sense, he'll make the next move!

First OBSERVE! If he is new he may be anxious to make new friends or he may be scared to fall in with the wrong crowd. Try to figure him out a little first. Is he a jock or a geek? What clubs has he joined? Is he always alone or with guys; gals? Does he have siblings at the school? Are you in the same neighborhood? how about church -can you find out which one (if any) he attends? That would be a great place to connect with him.

So, first do your homework and figure him out a little before you start a talk. Always talk with your eyes, be at your best - clean, friendly, approachable.

OK, so the easiest way to start a talk is just that. Start talking.
Some approaches:

Hi, I've been noticing you around lately. What school did you come from?

Hi, I am in such and such a club and would love to invite you if you are interested? Can I talk to you about it for a few minutes after school today? (Or: When can we have lunch together so I can tell you more?)

There are many conversation starters. The point is try to ask a question that requires more than a yes or no answer. Don't scare him. By making your meeting about something interesting, the pressure is off.

Friendship is a developmental process. It requires continuity, sharing and trust.

Good luck!

i no that this is kinda original, but if hes polite:

wait maybe a minute until ur next class starts. then start to run a little (so it looks like u dont wanna be late for class). then bump (accidentally) shoulders with him and drop ur books. he will most likely help u pick them up. then start a conversation about something he likes. hope it works!

Notice something about him and start a conversation. Like, is he in sports? Ask him about that sport. Does he dress really cool? Let him know you like his clothes and asks where he shops, what else is going on in your school or area that he might be involved with that you could ask him about? Does he wear band t-shirts? Ask him about the band.... Good luck and have fun!

stalk him so you know what he likes and what he's into, then you can join the same activities, thus upping your chances at talking to him AND giving you a starting point to talk to him.

or there's always myspace... you could message him on myspace and say hey i've seen you in the halls, whats up

who knows, he may be looking for people to hang out with since he's new!

Why don't you try and be around him a bit more...maybe with your friends......and some day something funny will happen whilst you are there....so....once that happens...you could maybe always say about it and have a laugh. And soon you will make up a really good realationship.....

Another way is to get friends with one of his mates. And then have a laff with his mate and hang around with them.

yeah im in ninth grade too and have absolutely no problem talking to guys. from the sounds of it i am guessing your pretty low on the "Social" scale. or should i say not with the "in" crowd. and seems like this guy is quite popular. so obviously you shouldnt try. find someone who isnt so far outta your leauge. i mean cuz if there were any chance of a "you" and a "him" becoming a "we". he would talk to you. so sorry its not gonna work. uuhhgg please you nerds need to set realistic goals FOREAL!.

First find out if he has a sister your age. If he does than hang out with her like you knew eachother since you were born the more you know her the more you know him . this can go for a close friend of his too.
