i need the answer for a science project ... plz help

The air oxydizes them turning them brown. Put them in a bowl of water with a bit of lemon juice in it and they will keep their color.

From the exposure to oxygen and bacteria. Its part of the decomposing process. Its beginning to rotten.

If you dip a cut apple into orange juice it will not turn brown for a long time. The citrus prevents the bacteria I guess it would be from growing as fast. Works great for small children's lunches. You really don't notice the orange juice other than slightly visual.

oxidization. you can stop it by putting them in salt water or lemon juice. what you doing removing the oxygen from the surface of the apple.
