The verb butt is one of ancient origin, more closely associated with goats and bulls than humans, as they are apt to use their horns when attacking. The word is of Germanic origin, but it comes to English from the Middle English word "butten", from Old French "bouter", meaning "to strike". That means that it has a different history from the word "butt" which is derived from the word "bottom", otherwise known as "buttock".

It does not make much sense at all.
Butt and Butt I guess some people just can't tell the difference.
Actually the word Butt and Buttock are different words meaning different things. However slang has also used the word Butt as a short term for Buttock.
So it is the meaning of buttock that is actually not correct. However it has been used for so long that it has to he considered as it is used either way.

The verb 'To butt' is not the same as 'a butt', A butt is slang meaning buttocks where as a headbutt comes from animals such as mountain goats or stags who ram their heads against each other for dominance or over a potential mate, hence when you 'butt' heads with someone you are coming against them in conflict. Where as a 'butthead' would be like calling someone an '*** face', as in they have their rear end mounted on their head, or their head up their rear end depending on the persons view.

Never seen an English dictionary that confirms this. Suspects it's "slang" from an overseas country. However I've observed that the word "f*g" is used for cigarettes in other countries... refers to homosexuals in the U.S. . I was taught to be nice to other cultures. Too bad they weren't taught to have the same manners.

Your butt is your buttocks.
If you butt someone, you hit them with your head.
One is a noun, the other is a verb.
