I am thinking of buying this lens for my film SLR (A pentax SF-10) but I am looking to moving into a Canon dSLR in a couple years, so I would like to purchase glass that is compatible with what I have now, and what I would buy in the future (the Canon 5D is well beyond my pricepoint - looking at mid to entry level dSLR)

The mounts are different between Pentax and Canon gear. It won't work.

The short answer is that full compatibility is impossible. For one thing, the Canon EOS mount requires the lenses to have their own autofocusing motors, so at best, if you could even find a mount converter, you'd have to manually focus. It's just not realistic to expect to have a Pentax mount lens work/mount on a Canon body.

Pentax does make digital SLRs which are compatible with Pentax lenses, so you should consider that in the future. Even a 6 megapixel Pentax digital SLR with lens is only about $460, so it's not too bad.

Oh they're all reliable! yet Pentax properly is it kinda, the thank you to assert Pentax precise now has been taken over via Ricoh. and that they are making new cameras with new designs. The question will they be reliable.. sure Pentax grow to be between the huge helps of the fourth/third format and nonetheless is. yet regrettably that format kinda did no longer get that a techniques. in step with threat with those days human beings procuring greater EVIL cameras [without lens yet with interchangable lenses] they gets the lots mandatory develop. See i admire the belief, a severe-high quality length sensor makes for reliable pictures. Pentax additionally now has the Q gadget. Ouch... a 2/3" length sensor surprisingly darn small while in comparison with the different gadget cameras. that's small and easy-weight and has sure lenses you are able to interchange..however the value is severe. quite quite severe! I considered some pictures made with it and specific nonetheless the sensor is robust..even nonetheless it continues to be a small sensor so constrained. Canon and Nikon sell APS-C and finished physique DSLR's. [yet do no longer brush aside sony the A55 and A77 are... oddly interresting, to no longer point out their sensor tech is great] the two are reliable only bear in mind that a reliable result's in part because of the fact of a reliable lens. The kitlenses are high quality yet.. you comprehend.. there is greater valuable available. nonetheless for the value of the kitlens they're reliable, for 4 time as greater you get greater valuable ;) the component is that the DSLR's from Pentax , properly .. EVIL gadget cameras do no longer use the comparable lenses as their previous action picture cameras. you go with an adapter for that. selections selections, I say study many comments, look on the rather pictures shot, the outcomes and visit shops to rather placed your arms on the products.

If you own more than one Pentax lens why wouldn't you consider the new Pentax K10D? It accepts all Pentax K-mount lenses including the KAF your camera uses.

The Pentax lenses will not work on any Canon.

I Don't think so> Canon uses EF lenses whereas the Pentax is and SF (has to do with how the lens clicks into the body).
