I pulled it off with a pair of tweezers, got it head and all, it wasn't really burrowed in by the looks of it, but the area is very red so I guess it might of been? Then I applied neosporin to the area. Should I take him to the vet? He has a tick & flea medication already maybe I should switch over to a different kind? I use revolution, but I heard frontline is top notch? Will my dog be ok?
I don't know how he managed to pick it up, we've never had a problem with ticks before, is there a possibility they came from our palm trees? We recently cut them and left the fronds in our backyard, might that be a new source of ticks?

I'm leaning towards it being a male brown dog tick. it looked nothing like a female of any kind [they are much larger]. and I'm positive it didn't come from anywhere inside my home, he was outside prior to my waking up, so he must of picked it up a short time before I spotted it. I checked him over to make sure there were no more & also checked my other pup to make sure none had gotten on him as well. I don't want to have to go to extremes by shampooing & keeping him away from me, he is already in deep slumber on my bed. So it's a little late for that one.

Ticks like to live by water sources, any pools, ponds, rivers, lakes.
I use frontline and in my dogs lifetime i found maybe 4 ticks on him, pulled them all off like you, and no complications ever came from it but the little red bump.
Theres a lyme disease vaccine for dogs and cats you might want to get your dog vaccinated just in case so you don't have to worry.

Well first and for most you need to head out to your local pet store and purchase a powder or shampoo that will kill these pesky little buggers
as for how your pup may have caught them .. well there are a few ways:
1) It came in on your clothing.
2) They can also travel in through an open window or door
3) Grass and trees etc.
4) Other infected animals
Make sure you make this treatment first priority .. so you don't end up with an infestation in your home!
Good Luck

You did the right thing by removing and disposing of the tick. The preventative that your dog has on him works by killing any ticks that attach to him, so it would have killed the tick in time. Don't think finding one meant that the preventative isn't working. Just be certain it is still within the 'working' time limit....usually a month. They can seem to appear out of no where. Most commonly it is heavily treed areas but that isn't always the case. Just be diligent about checking your dog over and keeping the preventative on him current.

You probably don't need to worry. My dog (and I) have had ticks before. There's no lyme where we are, so I don't have to worry about that. Just removing the tick should be enough. (And flush the tick. Smushing them will not kill them, they must be flushed down the toilet!)
I use Frontline. My dog still gets ticks during certain seasons when the ticks are bad. I usually pick the ticks off, but if I miss any, the Frontline will kill them. I've seen some dead ticks in her bed before. The Frontline kills them and they drop off. It does not repel them though.

I think your pet will be ok,just put some iodine on it,dogs will pickup ticks in high grass, and don't think your trees are the soarce.Good thing you found it and removed,as this can kill some dogs, because they don't have any resistance to fighting the poison.I had a Yorkie that had a tick on him and when I noted he was getting paralized ,I searched and found a tick on him.Vet said it will shut down some dogs major organs and cause dealth if they haven't got a resistance to the tick.

Revolution doesn't treat ticks!! It does fleas, sarcoptes mites, ear mites and roundworms, but not ticks. Frontline and Advantix does ticks.
You shouldn't necessarily have to take your dog to the vet but yes, if you're worried, certainly do. If the area becomes inflamed, this indicates infection which does need treatment.

convinced it truly is undesirable to pull ticks out, do not do it. the proper of a tick will destroy off and could stay interior your puppy. there's a Tick and flea liquid{small tube), said as "Frontline". It starts to paintings interior an afternoon. you'll get it at a puppy keep or the vet. both position could have it. it truly is a once a month dose and is presented in a container with 3 tubes: 3 months truly worth. It fee round $ 40.00 a container. It feels like alot , notwithstanding it truly is truly truly worth it. one among my dogs had a gaggle get on him and that i positioned Frontline on him, and interior an afternoon they began lack of life. attempt it, you'd be surprised and satisfied, and so will your canines! sturdy success to both one among you.

You don't have to do anything to the area where the tick was, but I would check him from time to time from now on now that you know he can get them, and could bring them into the house.......It's hard to tell where the tick came from it could be from anywhere there is boundaries as where they go outside, anywhere is their haven.......

Take a QUALIFIED vet's advice .. and don't let your dog sleep on your bed .. or even get on it .. take your dog and get him professionally shampooed .. tell them the problem .. (you can take off the silly silk bow afterwards, that's OK!) .. and don't let your dog get near to you until you're sure he's cleared!
