I see from whence you are coming with this question, but I don't think anyone's response is all that germaine to the issue. Whether or not I would want to be worshipped has no bearing on whether or not God wants to be worshipped for a couple of different reasons:
1) Being human, I'm not in a position to make suppositions on what an all-powerful God would want. It's beyond my comprehention. I can only go on what He's told me.
2) What He's told me is that He wants a realtionship with me. The thing there is that we can't possibly have a peer relationship. I will never, no matter what happens in the afterlife, be equal to God. Therefore the only appropriate interaction I have to my Creator is one of reverence. So being worshipped becomes less of a matter of "Does God want to be worshipped" as it is "How can I possibly interact with an omnipotent, holy God who wants a relationship with grungy, human me"?

If I were all-powerful, why would I even need or want to start the human race or anything else?
If I'm all-powerful and I'm lonely, can't I use my power to cure my loneliness? Or do my powers have limits? Why would I want or need worship?
If I'm all powerful, why would I need or want to punish anybody for anything? Why create a hell or satan? Why have your "son" be killed? Why care about homosexuality? Or sex?
Why play all these games?
I had some of these questions when I was growing up.

You have to realize that that is not the right question to ask.
You worship whatever you esteem to be of most value.
If you esteem God as having the greatest value, then you
are living your life in the truest sense that you can live it -
to have priorites in order - and to have priorities in order
is the best life YOU can live!
Honey, if you worship God - it is for YOUR benefit and
God knows this and that is the sole reason He wants you
to worship.
The question should be: why worship God?
The answer is that if you do not worship God,
you will worship something false and true life and
love will not be yours! I know that sounds harsh,
but we have to realize every day that it is true.
The truth sets free.

God is not a gigantic human being, the chances that he/she/it/us feels anything like human desires or satisfactions is remote at best. One person above had what I think is the right answer for the wrong reason - worship is for us. Not to keep us focused on the next life, FAR from it - to keep us humble and loving towards others in this life.

The most preposterous notion that H. Sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of His creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all of history.
enjoy the day

No. A truly mature and wise individual does not need the praise or begging of other people. She or He does what is right because it is the right thing to do and is satisfied with that.
A person who demands love and worship is more like a Tyrant King or Spoiled Child.

With power comes responsibility and you owe it to yourself to be happy. Yes, if i was all powerful i would want this world to worship me. Those who did not worship me i would make their life a living hell, just for fun. the sick i would not worry about, because, i know i will see them soon. Remember! success is nonthing, if you have no one to share it with. whether God or Mortal we all need a little love.

Our Creator needs nothing from us. Not even worship. Worship is for us. To keep us focused on the best that the next Life has to offer.

I don't think I'd want anyone to know...that's a lot of responsibility. I'd just try to do my thing, help Darfur and whatever else I could do...and keep my head down. It sounds like the beginning of one of those movies where in the end the FBI is chasing you down and stuff because they think you're a threat...
