Bowlegge I think it is a crime for a team like the Wood Bros to be in that situation too but I don't know what we can do as one person. I have stopped watching a lot of races and I do not buy anything with NASCAR on it nor any sponsor that is sucked in to this BS. I Email the sponsors too and let them know my feelings about how unfair NASCAR is to teams old and new and that I will not be doing any purchasing of there product as long as they chose to sponsor NASCAR until NASCAR can get back to the basics. That is what I am doing.
I think I said in your top Q that I truly resent the fact that NASCAR has the gull to make me think this top crap is the future of racing after watching racing for over 50 years and never in my life seen such BS.
I know how crazy it is to be in the racing business. I get into the locals and I am by Mid Ohio and enjoy the amateur end of the racing seen. It is hard to be competive in the SCCA which is for amateurs and it still is almost impossible to make it unless you have a big sponsor or a real rich daddy. Shoot years ago a driver I know was in like the big race in the north for the super modifieds and we had to help him out getting donations so he could afford to get a rear set of tires.
I don't have either one that is why I am a plumber home after work answering Q on yahoo.
Like you I want what is good for NASCAR teams and the fans and right now NASCAR is only there to help themselves and I am not going to participate with there childish rules.

I love the Wood Brothers to death. BUT, I seriously think they are beyond help, and unfortunately, have been for quite some time now (back to the early to mid-90's). Times change, and powers shift. Wood brothers had their run on top as the kings of NASCAR, but now it seems as thought the power has shifted to the younger crowd, with multiple cars. The Wood Brothers are a 1 car operation, and that severely limits the funding they have, the resources they have access to, and the amount of testing they can participate in.

Luckily, I believe they still have Bill Elliott on the roster, so he can get the car in the race if need be.

As far as the dirt trackers not being able to race, I know the feeling. That is the same thing that befell my racing operation.

Update......Bill Elliott is in the 21 this weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway, so the Wood Brothers are sure to get into the field.

WBR is 36th in points, 53 behind Kyle Petty, and 51 behind Dave Blaney.

The Wood Brothers are a true icon of the NASCAR world. The family teams(Wood Brothers,Petty Enterprise etc) are teams that helped to make NASCAR what it is today.
The Johnny come lately that have only been in existence since the 80's have robbed NASCAR of some damn good talent.
The team developed the art of pit stops and have had some great drivers.
It is not fair that the teams such as this can not secure solid sponsors nor can they afford the extrem amounts for the young drivers.
I will pull for the Wood Brothers and the Pettys because of their history with this sport.

I think they are in the same boat as Petty Enterprises nothing seems to work. I think they should start over with a new driver a Young Gun so to speak and get better sponserships. Also if they switched to Toyota or Chevrolet they might get a big bunch of monies that route. I feel for your buddies in Georgia Snake I run a Sportsman Stock Car here in Kentucky and it is hard doing it yourself. I was turned down by many, many businesses before I quit trying. Nobody has any money for that they say!!!! The best I did this season was free tires at an Auto-Pro parts house and replacement parts at their cost!!!!

Hey bowleggedsnake

Sorry if I flipped on you. I haven't answered in a while and I am passionate about this sport. When I was very young my Dad raced stock cars so I crave this stuff old school. That is why I feel the way I do and stick up for the little guys too. I will pay better attention to questions next time when somebody's just bouncing an idea around out of curiosity.

I guess any idea bears merit if it helps smaller teams secure more spots in more races as long as it doesn' t make anything unfair for anyone.

They should merge with another team and make a 4 car team with some young drivers. As bad as I want the small teams to win, those days are over. The superteams have taken over and if the small teams don't do the same they will be history.
