Seventh-day Adventists celebrate the Sabbath from sundown Friday until sundown Saturday. It really is a very special time for Adventists throughout the world. The denomination has nearly 15 million members worldwide. It is an international Christian church that values the teachings of Jesus and the significance of the Sabbath.

Different Christian churches and religions celebrate the Sabbath differently. What are some of the ways that you celebrate the Sabbath? What makes the Sabbath day special to you?

The Bible says in Exodus 20:8

"Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy".

I am glad to see your question, my sister and I were just discussing "How" does one go about celebrating the Lord's true 7th day Sabbath?

I have looked into the 7th day Adventist while seeking a church to attend. Although, they do meet many of the criteria that I need to belong to a church; ie: No pagan celebrations, worshiping on the "Correct" day of the Sabbath, No crosses, images, Mary worship, steeples, just to name a few.

They do however have this dietary stipulation that I didn't really agree with and I think that kept me from joining their church.

But, if you could write to me and tell me how to correctly celebrate the true 7th day Sabbath of God I would really appreciate it.

God Bless You

Hi, Some of your answerers falsely call Sunday the Sabbath, too bad.

I am not an Adventist, but the Sabbath day is a blessing in so many ways! We all work full time jobs and by Friday we are eagerly looking forward to the Sabbath rest. What a blessing to have one day that all our problems and cares and the hustle and bustle of working for a living and all our other activities can cease and we can rest, guilt free, because our Father and Creator set that time apart for us.

We spend a lot of time together as a family and we usually do a Bible Study as a family.
We rest a lot. Sometimes we visit likeminded friends, sometimes they visit us. We do not make or keep any hard and fast rules except that we do not work and no shopping between sunset Friday and sunset Saturday.

We have seen first hand the blessings God promises from obedience to this commandment (and all the others).

Isaiah 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

I originally learned the truth from a publication by Herbert Armstrong, the link to which I will post here:

Edit: Just for clarification, what was the first thing that the Bible says that God made Holy? It was a day. If it was made Holy at creation, then that supersceeds the Sinai covenant, since in Adam it would have been made Holy for all mankind. It really is the test commandment as to wheter someone is truly following Christ or not.

I like to spend my Sabbath's with my family. Sometimes we like to go to nursing homes to sing to the shut-ins. There are so many enjoyable things to do on Sabbath. Fellowship is always a blessing especially with others who believe the same way.
Yes...I too am a Seventh-day Adventist. Remember...the remnant of His people are those who Keep the Commandments of God (7th day includes the 4th Commandment that other groups deny), and the Testimony of Jesus which is the Spirit of Prophecy (Adventist means we believe the Prophecy of His second coming...therefore, all Scriptural Prophecy).
Hogie believes Satan's Lies about the Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for all of mankind...Adam and Eve were not the children of Israel. The Sabbath was the very first Holiday...HOLY DAY ordained by God! God's Laws were for all of mankind not just the Hebrew Children of Israel but also the Spiritual children of Israel. We as Christians are adopted into that family when we accept being grafted into the Vine.
We keep God's Law because we love Him, not because we can gain salvation by works. Jesus said Himself, "If you love Me, Keep My Commandments."

The Sabbath is wonderful. It is a sign of God's creative power. It is a day to rest and to study and to grow closer to God. That doesn't mean that we should not spend time with him every day. But the Sabbath is a special day that we must set our own cares of this world aside, and focus on what God has done for us. It is also a time to help others and to be a witness for God.

One of your answerers mentioned the leap year thing. Clearly he/she does not know their history. But briefly, leap year affects the date not the day of the week. We go from the 28th to the 29th, and then the 1st. We don't go from let's say Tuesday then skip to Thursday. How foolish.

The Sabbath is the most important day of the week for me and my family. None of us work, and we attend church as a family. The kids don't play with friends on this day. But rather we spend the day doing family stuff. Like taking the dog for a walk. Having dinner with church friends. Over the years we have done more to make the sabbath feel more holy. Such as only listening to hymns on this day. Only watching Living scripture videos also. It has made Sunday the most loved day in our family.

Good question!

Interesting that you cite Exodus 20:8, where it is God speaking to Israel, and not Christians.

So, do you take everything God spoke to others, and apply it to yourself?

You do realize this was in a covenant that Christians were not a party to, don't you?

And what happens to one who has faith in Christ to save them, but doesn't keep the sabbath?
