99.9% of scientists can't be wrong. It's real. Factor in also the fact that 99.9% of the scientists who refute global warming are paid by companies that want to keep it under wraps, and many of them are not even experts in the field... seems pretty clear that the whole "Global Warming is Fake" movement is just a political smokescreen designed to fool an ignorant public.

Global warming and Global cooling have been taking place since the earth was formed. in fact we are still coming out of a mini ice age that occurred in the late 16th century. Remember Greenland was good pasture land when the viking landed on it.

Taco - of your 99.9% name a respected scientist who will claim that global warming is man made. Al Gore doesn't count. most scientist agree that it is natural and only in the 80's the 99.9% said that we were heading for a new ice age.

Bob - sorry the Wal-mart owner thinking global warming is man made is just as good as my next door neighbour. Most scienists don't think it is man made and agree that although there is some contribution by man it is very little in consideration to the natural effects. The best you'll find is that man speeds up the process.

Global warming is really happening. The suns rays are being trapped inside the earth.. It is in no way fake. Notice how last year( or this year) It didnt start getting cold untill march? And it only snowed in April. This will happen later and later untill cold weather disapears... Its such a sad thing.. But its very true and people need to watch out for it. Dont let people tell you otherwise.

It is best to use the correct terminology. In this case using the phrase "climate change" would be more correct. Of course climate is always changing. The goal is to understand that change and prepare for whatever direction it is traveling. In this case it would be difficult since in some areas temperatures have been rising (at least a little) and in other areas they have been dropping.

The primary point here is that what change is occurring is not cause by humans and it is most likely that humans can't change it.

Now if worrying is your mode of life, why not pick something that is real and may have real negative impact. For example, if the magnetic poles change position as they have many times in the past and the evidence is beginning to demonstrate that such a change may again becoming in the near term (whatever that is). Or, what do you think would happen when the Yellow Stone super volcano goes off as it surely will in the future.

By the way, running out of coal and oil as a source of energy is not something to worry about for a very long time. If coal alone (within United States borders) were used for all energy in the United States even a pessimist projection puts us at a minimum of 200 years of energy (500 years may be closer to the truth). With adding oil (which are far larger reserves than is published by the news media), we have several additional 100s of years of energy.

Of course by accepting those realities we cannot have the pleasure of moaning and groaning about the failing futures for all f us.

global warming is real, but it is a natural cycle that the earth goes through, and has for millions of years. The sun is warming up the earth, plus other planets in our solar system are warming as well. We cant stop global warming because we have no effect on it at all.

10 COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING

Myth 1: Global temperatures are rising at a rapid, unprecedented rate.

Fact: Temperatures have increased around urban areas (“heat islands”) which distorts the overall picture; whereas accurate satellite, balloon and long-term mountain top measurements have observed no increase at all.

Myth 2: The “hockey stick” graph proves that the earth has experienced a steady, very gradual temperature increase for 1000 years, then recently began a sudden increase.

Fact: Significant changes in climate have continually occurred throughout geologic time. For instance, the Medieval Warm Period, from around 1000 to1200 AD (when the Vikings farmed on Greenland) was followed by a period known as the Little Ice Age. Since the end of the 17th Century the "average" global temperature has been rising at a rate of 0.6 to 0.8 degrees Celsius per 100 years; although from 1940 – 1970 temperatures actually dropped, leading to a Global Cooling scare. The hockey stick not only ignores historical fact, but is also scientifically flawed.

Myth 3: Human produced carbon dioxide has increased over the last 100 years, adding to the Greenhouse effect, thus warming the earth.

Fact: Carbon dioxide levels have indeed changed for various reasons, human and otherwise, just as they have throughout geologic time. The CO2 increase was only 0.4% over the last 50 years, rather than the 5% per 100 years quoted by Kyoto. However, as measured in ice cores dated over many thousands of years, CO2 levels move up and down AFTER the temperature has done so, and thus are the result of, not the cause of warming. Geological field work in recent sediments confirms this. There is solid evidence that as temperatures rise naturally and cyclically, the earth naturally produces more CO2 as a result.

Myth 4: CO2 is the most common greenhouse gas.

Fact: Water vapour or clouds, which makes up on average about 3 % of the atmosphere, is the major greenhouse gas. CO2 makes up only about 3% of the greenhouse gases, or about 0.03% of the atmosphere. Moreover, because of its molecular weight and absorptive capacity, water vapour is 3000 times more effective than CO2 as a greenhouse gas. Those attributing climate change to CO2 rarely mention this important fact.

Myth 5: Computer models verify that CO2 increases will cause significant global warming.

Fact: Unfortunately, computer models predicting global warming are incapable of including the effects of the sun and the clouds. Further, the main cause of temperature variation is the sun. Its radiation changes all the time, partly in cyclical fashion. The number of sunspots can be correlated very closely with average temperatures on earth, e.g. the Little Ice Age and the Medieval Warm Period. Varying intensity of solar heat radiation affects the surface temperature of the oceans and the currents. Warmer ocean water expels gases, some of which is CO2.

Myth 6: The UN proved that man–made CO2 causes global warming.

Fact: In a 1996 report by the UN on global warming, two statements were deleted from the final draft. Here they are:
1) “None of the studies cited above has shown clear evidence that we can attribute the observed climate changes to increases in greenhouse gases.”
2) “No study to date has positively attributed all or part of the climate change to ………..man–made causes”

Myth 7: CO2 is a pollutant.

Fact: This is absolutely not true. In fact, CO2 is essential to life on earth. It is necessary for plant growth and its intake causes many trees and other plants to grow more vigorously. If, as the man made global warming ideologues proclaim, CO2 is polluntant, then world thrives on it! Governments do not decide what is a pollutant- true scienice does, not junk science.

Myth 8: Global warming will cause more storms and other weather extremes.

Fact: There is no scientific or statistical evidence whatsoever that supports such claims. Growing insurance and infrastructure repair costs, particularly in coastal areas, are sometimes claimed to be the result of increasing frequency and severity of storms, whereas in reality they are a function of increasing population density and escalating development value.

Myth 9: Receding glaciers and the calving of ice shelves are proof of global warming.

Fact: Glaciers have been receding for hundreds of years; that’s because we are still coming out of the very cool period of the Little Ice Age. Ice shelves have been breaking off for centuries. Scientists know of at least 33 periods of glaciers growing and then retreating. It’s normal.

Myth 10: The earth’s poles are warming; polar ice caps are breaking up and melting and the sea level rising.

Fact: The earth is variable. The western Arctic may be getting somewhat warmer, but the eastern Arctic and Greenland are getting colder. The small Palmer Peninsula of Antarctica is getting warmer, while the main Antarctic continent is actually cooling.

As a geologist and environmental consultant, I agree completely with Solomon. You will notice that most people who advocate global warming do so in terms of suggesting a concensus when none exists and then they try to brow beat anyone that disagrees or is skeptical of their exaggerated claims. The truth is a little warming will have benefits that outweigh the consequenses. Those that refuse to recogize any benefits should be seen for what they are, people that are obsessed with pushing a political and sometimes psuedoreligious agenda on the rest of us. I for one don't look for concensus for my scientific facts as some have advocated in previous answers. That is not how science works and it is a very poor way to seek the truth in my opinion.

for those who are interested about the topic of global warming and also for those who doubt the seriousness of the phenomenon, i suggest you watch the video or read the book 'The Inconvenient Truth' by Al Gore. it shows the severeness or the depth of our faults have become. Al Gore showed concrete examples that shows global warming is really happening.

It is real but not much of a problem. The real problem is that coal and oil will run out all too soon, so we better get busy on alternative energy projects, because the consequences of running out of coal and oil before we have alternatives is far worse than the worst that global warming has to throw at us.

As you can see in the following links, the Earth warming and cooling is normal and has been happening since the beginning of time. As for my opinion, man has caused very little of the current warming.
