Not actually, the typist is listening to what the person is saying and tries to type that, he does make mistakes, but not that often, also there are times that he skips some lines, since they are going so fast. You will also notice that there are two styles on how they are shown, some like on pre recorded programs that are taped beforehand, then there is the live version.

I believe most of it is done by voice recognition programs now, with an editor watching for mistakes and correcting as necessary.

I don't know if they type "live" but I have seen mistakes.

have you not seen mistakes or when they backspace and retype..i find that funny
