Wouldn't this cause a wreck? I'm confused.

on the bike, tailgater or no tailgater, before i commit to putting on the brakes to stop the bike, i always flash the brake lights a few times. reason is simple; if he's too pre-occupied on the phone, he wont notice that i'm slowing down.....he will have me for a hood ornament. i dont know whether or not the driver is fully paying attention. a car that weighs 1500+ pounds that so much as taps a 560 pound bike....bike is gonna resemble tin foil after.
if a tailgater, i still flash. then i keep just the brake light on....then i'll back off just the gas to start to slow down. under no circumstances (except for an actual emergency that i have absolutely no choice) will i slam on the brakes. that WILL cause u to get rear ended, and if there isnt a reason for slamming on the brakes, in ohio, U will get the ticket for causing a wreck as well as the other guy for assured clear distance/following too close.

My son is a truck driver. If a driver can't see a trucker's side mirror, than the trucker can't see them. They touch their brake to make the driver behind back up. If the trucker has to brake it will take a long time to stop, but if there is an emergency and they hit their brakes, they have little control over their trailer. Some people always tail gate and that is not safe. If these people don't get the message with one tap of the brake they never will so don't bother pumping them.

There is a switch that makes the brake lights come on when you hit the pedal. This happens before the brakes are actually engaged. It is a means of "advising" the tailgater that he may need to back-off.

I only tap it to make the brake light come on. It gets the point across, that they are to close. You shouldn't press the pedal hard enough to engage the brakes.

to wake them up and make them go around. I've slammed on my brakes momentarily if someone was tailgaiting me to no end. As long as they can pass, if they hit you, it's their fault. I'm not saying cause an accident but some people need to get the crap scared out of them to stop their stupidity while driving.

No, you gently tap the brakes to flash your brake lights, not so hard that you stop, or you're likely to get rear-ended.

Only a STUPID driver would do that. I don`t know why some people do that either. With 3 thumbs down, now you know why some people get rear-ended. Dumb*****.
